Karl Towns Signs National Letter of Intent with the Kentucky Wildcats

The big man from Metuchen (NJ) St. Joseph will be a Kentucky Wildcat starting in the 2014-15 season.

Five-star big man Karl Towns from Metuchen (NJ) St. Joseph is officially on-board, having signed and sent in his National Letter of Intent to the Kentucky Wildcats. Towns participated in a signing day ceremony at his high school. The local paper, the Central Jersey, captured Towns and his teammates in the Twitter picture below.

Towns became Kentucky's first commitment in the 2014 class way back in December of 2012. Towns had played for Kentucky head coach John Calipari on the Dominican Republic National Team, paving the way for his eventual commitment. Towns last visited Kentucky in mid-October for Big Blue Madness.

Though he profiles as a 4 professionally, Towns will likely be asked to play center when he comes to Lexington. Kentucky currently has three bigs on the roster capable of playing the 5 in Willie Cauley-Stein, Dakari Johnson, and Marcus Lee. All three are "50-50" prospects right now. It wouldn't be surprising to see all three return, all three leave, or somewhere in between. As such, Towns' role going into the 2014-15 season will remain in flux until pro decisions are made.

Towns becomes the second player in the 2014 class to publicly send in his letter of intent, following Tyler Ulis.

Welcome to Big Blue Nation, Karl!
