So yeah, about that post yesterday? Never mind. An early morning article from Matt Scott of KUTheShiver alluded that 2014 small forward Kelly Oubre would be making a decision prior to visiting the Kentucky Wildcats for Big Blue Madness.
Matt's prediction was correct, as Oubre ended up committing to the Kansas Jayhawks today. Oubre had officially visited Lawrence last weekend for Late Night in the Phog. Apparently, his visit was enough to convince Oubre not to take a trip to Lexington for Big Blue Madness. His commitment came as somewhat of a surprise, since many recruitniks expected Kentucky to make a significant push with Oubre during Big Blue Madness.
Kansas had a long-standing relationship with Oubre, and was one of the first Big 12 programs to start recruiting the talented small forward. As a sophomore and junior, Oubre had been ranked as a top 50 four-star recruit. Only after a lights-out summer did he rise to five-star status.
Though Kentucky head coach John Calipari made a valiant effort to get in late on Oubre's recruitment, he was not able to overcome Kansas' thorough recruiting efforts. The Wildcats still have two small forward offers outstanding. Stanley Johnson now becomes the primary target. He will be on campus for Big Blue Madness, but is currently considered an Arizona lean. Houstonian Justise Winslow also holds a Kentucky offer, although no new news have surfaced regarding the two parties.
