Kentucky Wildcats Morning Quickes: Jadeveon Clowney Edition

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

News and commentary from around the Big Blue Internet. Kentucky football players Randall Cobb and Danny Trevathan have big games. John Calipari happy with Wildcats practice. Volleyball and women's soccer win. More

There's a lot of angst in the college football world today, and a feeling that Jadeveon Clowney might be mailing in the season after missing the game at UK this past Saturday.

Tweet of the Morning:

Wait, let me take a stab. Ummm... No.

Your Quickies:

Kentucky football
  • Can Jalen Whitlow run with the job? I sure hope so. He looked pretty good this weekend.

  • Don't forget, it's the Daily Double next Saturday when Alabama comes to town — Keenland and Kentucky football.

  • Missouri elevated to top 25 in this week's AP poll, despite the fact that they have played absolutely nobody but Vanderbilt. But they did crush the Commodores, and in Nashville, too.

  • If you haven't heard Mark Stoops' comments, here they are:

  • Mitch Barnhart "on board" with plans to honor the UK players who broke the racial barrier in the SEC. We'll have more on that today.

  • Guarded praise for the Wildcats:

Ultimately South Carolina proved too much, but this type of effort makes it clear that coach Mark Stoops’ team hasn’t given up on what has turned into a disastrous season. That’s a good omen for Stoops, who ripped his team during the week. QB Jalen Whitlow gave the Wildcats more of a positive sign by performing well as the full-time quarterback. He accounted for 3 TDs and didn’t turn the ball over in defeat.

Kentucky basketball
  • Maize 'n Brew thinks that both Devin Booker and James Blackmon are high on Michigan, but even higher on Kentucky

  • Class of 2014 power forward Carlton Bragg gets another look by Calipari. There is a lot of interest there, but no offer yet ...

  • Jon Hood to focus on the fun this year. He has the most years of any player in the John Calipari system, but has a pragmatic outlook for this season:

So, to ask about playing time this coming season — another familiar question to Hood's ears — is to get a reply grounded in a healthy perspective.

"Jarrod (Polson) and I were talking about it last night," he said. "We just want to have fun. As long as we have fun, everything else will take care of itself.

  • Julius Randle is good, and he knows it. Doh.

  • Willie Cauley-Stein loves to be different. That's fine, but he needs to be good. I found this interesting:

"Dakari didn’t make me angry. It was more that Coach Cal made me angry," he said. "‘Like, what do you mean? I’m trying to do what I know to do, and I’ve got to learn to battle against him. You act like I had somebody to go against like him last year.’

  • Calipari tweets out his pleasure at "... every player." I like hearing that.

  • Calipari was surprised by Marquis Teague's early departure. I was as well.

  • Calipari top target Stanley Johnson looking forward to his visit during Big Blue Madness. I have no doubt, we'll make an impression. Hat tip: Aaron's blog
