Cincinnati's LaSalle High School's Jaleel Hytchye has committed to Kentucky.
Chalk up yet another surprise for Mark Stoops & Co., this time in the form of a defensive back, Jaleel Hytchye. Hytchye is a Rivals.com 3-star, but is apparently a 4-star in other recruiting services.
According to a report on Rivals.com [subscription], Hytchye is interested in being a part of something new, and building something where it did not previously exist. He had received offers from Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Louisville, Purdue, and Vanderbilt as well as Kentucky and a host of others. That Stoops was able to swoop in and snatch him away despite the success of the other programs involved, particularly Cincinnati and Louisville, speaks volumes about the recruiting ability of Stoops and his assistants.
According to the Herald Leader article:
Hytchye was a second-team all-Greater Catholic League South division selection this past season, according to Cincinnati.com.
Rivals ranks Hytchye as the 50th-best cornerback prospect in the nation.
No, this does not mean Kentucky is about to become a contender for the SEC East, but it does mean that in just a couple of months as Kentucky's head coach, Stoops has landed a couple of 4-star recruits and has others interested. That's great news for Kentucky football, and if you are a UK partisan and this doesn't excite you at least a little, I suggest you check your pulse.
Football is getting more interesting by the day. It's about time.
