Where Everybody Knows Your "Name"

Stay connected for news and updates

Go Big Blue!

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,

and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,

people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.

Many of us remember these lyrics. Even if you are not old enough to remember watching, most would recognize the tune if you heard it pop up at some point and know the show's basis was a gathering place to talk about what was important to them. The characters that frequented Cheers became acquaintances many of us liked to check in on their gatherings, much like we do here to talk about our Kentucky Wildcats.

I cannot explain why I was thinking about this old show. I haven't seen reruns since I don't know when. I do know I have related to a character or two since the show aired. And yes, even sometimes thinking ASoB was a little like a larger scale of the Cheers bar because we have the advantage of operating on a larger scale with the unending boundaries of the internet.

Of course we have many more characters than the show had and, just like in the series, we feel we "know" everyone and we all gather daily at our favorite place mainly because everyone else is here to talk about all things Blue. Let's have a little fun with this theory. Who are we?

I guess, the most obviously character would be the bartender. That would be Sam ... err Tru ... err Glenn. He is always here to invite us up to the bar (without being like Sam). He always knows we are willing to share what we know concerning the Wildcats or how we feel about a subject he chooses to bring up.

When "Sam" is called away, we have Coach ... err Ken, a.k.a. The Night Owl, taking his place. (Ken, you may be "Woody" if you so choose.) He is always willing to pitch in in a big way whenever he is needed. He is full of sharable knowledge too.

And of course, what would we be without a powerful female character in the script? Not so much like Carla or Diane but a strong presence needed with great qualities to make sure everyone is minding their manners and behaving within the community guidelines. This person is obviously our beloved BigSkyCat.

Now that I have outlined a basic "cast" of characters, how about we have a little fun and fill in the rest. Who is Norm? Or Cliff? Any ideas? Me, I'm perfectly fine with being someone who is always willing to pull up a stool to talk and listen about football too, or whatever. Like I said, we have a big cast so while you'd "like to get away" here, you can be any character you choose. We are all here for the same reason. Remember, we're "always glad you came" to talk about Blue.
