UK quarterback Morgan Newton nominated for Good Works Team.
Senior Kentucky Wildcat quarterback Morgan Newton is one of 52 players from the FBS nominated for the 2012 Allstate, AFCA Good Works Team.
The press release states, "As one of college football's most prestigious off-the-field honors, the award recognizes a select group of college football players committed to making a difference in their communities."
Newton's contributions to the Kentucky community include:
- Reading to children as part of the Read Across America program.
- Packing furniture and assisting with moving efforts for flood victims in Pikeville.
- Speaking out against bullying at local elementary school.
From the 117 nominees (covering the FBS and FCS, which covers NCAA Div. II, II, and NAIA), a prominent selection panel will pick two 11-player Good Works Teams that will be announced in September. The panel is composed for former Good Works winners, media members, current AFCA and Harvard University head coach Tim Murphy, former BYU head coach LaVell Edwards, and Allstate executive Kathy Mabe.
Congratulations to Newton, and a big thanks from the BBN for his efforts in giving something back to his community.
