With the picture of Anthony Davis above emerging a good two weeks before the NBA Lottery Selection Show, there is many rumblings about the NBA rigging the draft order. I love me some conspiracy theories. The Anthony Davis in the Hornets hat isn’t the only thing I find a little odd this summer. Lately, there has been a couple of questionable sports related items that I think deserves some discussion.

Item number one on my list is the Anthony Davis wearing a New Orleans hat. I’ve already heard all the naysayers. Most people argue that the hat in the picture is simply a vintage Charlotte Hornets cap that Anthony Davis is coincidentally wearing. I call bull on that. The NBA Draft lottery is rigged and has been for some time. I predicted weeks ago that New Orleans would get the pick. Why? New Orleans was owned by the NBA until just recently. It wasn’t until Tom Benson(Owner of the New Orleans Saints) came in and made a deal with David Stern to buy the team. It is my opinion that part of that deal was to make sure New Orleans got the number one pick overall, which means Anthony Davis. My gut feeling plus the picture above is enough proof to me.

The other odd item this summer is the Indiana / Kentucky series drama that is still unfolding. The story is that Kentucky doesn’t want to play on the Indiana campus and Indiana doesn’t want to play on a neutral site. Indiana officials blame Kentucky while Kentucky officials blame Indiana. The negotiations about the game have been unusually public and now gaining national media attention. One day it seems the series is back on. The next day it looks as if the two colleges will never meet again. The last move in this chess match was made by Indiana when they released a public (poorly written) letter to Mitch Barnhart citing their regret that an agreement couldn’t be reached. What do I think? I think it could possibly be one of the best marketing schemes ever by John Calipari and Tom Crean. Like a said earlier, this has now become a national media spectacle. To the other 48 states, it looks like a major battle between Kentucky and Indiana and they want to see how it plays out. What better way to draw attention and create a major event than to have two teams build up weekly drama over scheduling? Both fan bases have huge opinions on the topic. Now, I think the game will continue and be played at Lucas Oil which can seat 75 thousand plus. Because of the hype and build up of this scheduling controversy in the media, the game will be nationally eye grabbing and every seat in the house will be filled. Genius. Again, my gut feeling and the above picture of Tom Crean(which has nothing to do with this post, by the way. It just shows I don’t need much to believe a conspiracy theory) is all I need to fuel my theory. Now, I’ve made my case. What do you think?
