Kentucky Wildcats (1) 86 at South Carolina Gamecocks 52: Post Game Open Thread

This game was as good as it gets. (via Vectorportal)

A full postmortem will have to wait. I want to eat and relax awhile before dissecting the game, but there isn't that much to say -- it was kind of one-sided.

So chat about the game in here. Enjoy, and relax. Kentucky played great, we all know that, and that's where we need to keep our focus.

Go, 'Cats!

Unfortunately South Carolina listened

to Jimmy Dyke’s advice. If they had kept going inside Anthony would have gotten 10 blocks at least.

of all the things he did tonight...

i loved it when he switched and was on their PG. he stayed with him on the drive and then blocked the shot. how many 6’ 10’ men can guard a PG?

their calender is supposed to be the ending of one time and the beginning of the next. I think it is the time it would take for aliens to return to a planet 2500 years away and return. I just hope they are tall and can play basketball.

Do you see any differences in Cal

here at UK vs his Memphis days?

Making waves in a sea of blue.

by kywineman on Feb 4, 2012 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

two things off the top of my head

and they may be related…

1) he does not seem to have as many knuckle heads on the team. that may be because there is less distraction in lex than in memphis
2) he does not throw kids under the bus in the press. often he would use the media – paper – to call a kid out. he could be pretty harsh.

maybe the reason for the 2 above is that he has learned how to better judge a kid when he recruits them.

by Bluehound on Feb 4, 2012 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

My impression concerning knuckleheads

is that he had some borderline knuckleheads in his first team here at UK. They were going to go to Memphis for the most part until he came here and they followed him. I think he has been recruiting a better class of players now that he pretty much has his pick of the litter. Better grades, better attitudes.

by kywineman on Feb 4, 2012 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

Agree...

I will give him credit for one thing – he never recruited memphis kids. took flak for it but btwn posses, aau coaches and high school coaches it would have been a nightmare.

btw – jarnell stokes’ high school team is ranked #1 in the city – even without him…

i would add...

that i used to go to the games and wish that the same excitement you felt at the games in memphis could be at uk.

i also believe that he does go right up to the line on recruiting. however, the memphis athletic dept was/is so dysfunctional, it is easy to see how bad things happened. i have faith that sandy bell (?) will not let some of the things that happened at memphis happen in lexington.

people forget, memphis had a final four vacated long before Cal was here – ironically, it was the one memphis played in lexington

Report from the JP

Called Mother and asked if she watched the game. She said what do you think we would be doing? Her view was “I really likes Davis. It is nice to seem him smile, but he needs to do something about that mouthpiece.” Mother also said, “It was so nice to see that nice Terrance Jones smile. Sometimes he just worries too much.”

About sums it up for me.

I love the way this schedule is playing out.

We now play the best teams, ideal for tuning up for the post season. I hope they find weaknesses and point them out to us. Of course it would be great if we win those games anyway.

I can see why Anderson

had such a hard time leaving there to coach at Arkansas, but it was now or never if he wanted to return to Arkansas. Great game.

He was an assistant under Richardson

for years at Arkansas, even their National Championship year. The fans have been clamoring for him for years and many were disappointed when Pelphrey was hired instead of Anderson last time. At that time, Richardson hadn’t been gone long enough and a lawsuit from RIchardson was still pending against UA.
