Vandy's Football Recruiting Success
Remember — it hasn't been all that long ago — when you could pencil in a UK win over Vandy? Last year and the future portrays a whole new future for the Commodores. How did the 'Dores just sign their best recruiting class in history? Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples takes a look at the process and the success.
Franklin seems to be succeeding. Vanderbilt doesn't get players Ohio State wants. It got one this year. Vanderbilt rarely beats Tennessee for players. It did this year. "It's the best class I've ever been associated with," Franklin said.
Which brings the obvious question: Why can't UK do the same?

Grrrr..........
Maybe with the addition of Mizzou and the Aggies we can get a conference realignment with Vandy in the other region, the days of a quasi-guaranteed win with Vandy may be over.
On another note, I was going to do a fanpost but will just mention it here. Did anyone see the stink that Meyer has already caused in the Big 10 recruiting battles? Sure didn’t take him long to piss everyone off in that conference. ;-)

It didn't take long, did it.
They are just realizing that they’re playing with the big dog now, and they don’t like it. A Michigan fan hit the nail on the head….." What the hell did you expect, they (SEC) own the BCS".
"SPORTS"--Not interested----"CATS"--Pull up a chair,I've got all night.
Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State, they all better realize that Meyer takes no prisoners
and will not hesitate to cut the legs out from under anyone who gets in his way, when it comes to recruiting.
As for our own situation, I will try not to spew my coffee on my new laptop screen when questioned about the veracity of our ability to recruit the talent we need. I guess a few 3-9 seasons might get the ball rolling, but who knows?

I think a few 3-9 seasons will make the ball explode.
UK will be back to the classes of ten years ago, filled with 2* and NR kids that we hope pan out. Losing isn’t going to give the recruiting staff the resources to out hustle the Sabans, etc. it’s also not going to do anything to indicate that a kid is going to do any winning at UK.
We've never been able to "... pencil in a win..." against Vanderbilt.
We’ve gone 8-4 against them since 2000, and all but two or three have been within a touchdown.
Back in the 1990’s, Vanderbilt used to pencil in a win against UK. We dropped 5 in a row to them between 1991 and 1995.

Maybe he should have said "pencil in a competitive game"??.....;)
Vandy isn’t going to conquer Rome anytime soon, but if they dovget over the hump and all of a sudden become really competitive in the expanded SEC, some eyebrows will be raising.
This guy at Vandy may be the next great thing in college football, but if he is, I just don’t see him sticking around Vandy long enough to make them a problem for very long…..
I would, however, be really excited if we had that problem with Joker, but time will tell. Maybe he keeps the momentum going and we see a real deal develop in Lexington as well.

Not Realistically Perhaps
Nevertheless in all the recent seasons when UK fans were asked to forecast the season record and the more optimistic (usually the majority) chose 5-7 wins, the Vandy game was near unanimously chosen as a victory — how else to get above .500?

Irrelevant.
The fact that UK fans are wrong if they think that has no bearing on the matter.
For me, I usually figure we’ll win two more or less by virtue of history. Even if we haven’t beaten Vandy, we usually find a win elsewhere against Ole Miss or somebody else.
Two wins is always fair, but counting Vandy as a win is only a percentage play.

If Not The Fans Who?
Who else matters when the expression “penciling in a win” is used? Correct or not it’s the fans perception that sets the expectations.

It is a good thing
that memory is the second thing to go. At least then you can forget about the first.

Vandy has Franklin and we have - well you know
Kids want to play for a high profile coach/school or one upcoming and hot coach/program. Maybe that leaves us out.
