#7 UK Hoops 75- Crimson Tide 77: Postmortem- Road Warriors We Are Not
And I thought the last one was painful to write...
UK has a long way to go if they want to live up to that Top 10 ranking they have held for the last few weeks, and tonight they did nothing to silence their critics. More after the jump.
Well, maybe this attention we have been giving the Hoops squad is jinxing them, because tonight UK fell again 77-75 to Alabama, a team which had only one SEC win coming into tonight's contest. that makes three straight losses, all on the road for UK, which may be seeing it's first SEC Championship in decades slipping through it's fingers.
UK came back from a 23pt deficit in the second half after going in at halftime down 22. the charge was fast and furious, but ultimately just short. A'dia Mathies had 26 points for Kentucky, her last basket being a 3-pointer with 1 second left. She scored 18 in the second half on 80% shooting, and added six steals and five assists.
After three of these losses in a row, Matthew Mitchell is going to have to go back to the drawing board to correct the problems, or simply find a way to get UK shooting better. UK shot 60% in the second half, but only managed 33.3% in the first half, and they committed 15 T.O.'s before the halftime buzzer. they allowed Alabama to shoot 70% in the first half on their way to racking up 50 pts when the first buzzer went off. Jasmine Robinson scored 17 for Bama. I'll put some more analysis into this later this weekend, but for now, suffice it to say, the ladies are in trouble, and they need to find their way back from an abysmal two weeks of lousy basketball, including poor shooting, way too many T.O's and nonexistent execution. I hope Coach has his Magic 8 Ball going overtime.

Wow.
Overlooked Alabama, perhaps?
On the bright side for you, Kentucky is in better shape in the tiebreakers for SEC tournament seeding. (Not that Tennessee and Kentucky can be counted on to win out, but still.)
Honestly Hooper, I don't think they did......I think LSU managed to exploit a weakness in UK and everyone is jumping on it....
Mitchell is going to have to go back to the drawing board….

Season On The Brink
Sorry for bringing back Knight thoughts but my fears realized — Mitchell and team are fortunate the next game is in Memorial.

I really feel like that is exactly the case....
They absolutely needed to win one of those last three, just one, to keep that lock on the title…..if they cannot go on the road in the SEC and win one out of three, I feel like our post season chances are pretty slim.

yuck
Well, last year’s men’s team was able to overcome road problems. Maybe the Women can do the same this year.

I think Mitchell can figure it out, but they have to get some really great individual effort.....
Mathies is good, but she cannot do it all.

It's possible the team is just tired.
Even with the deep rotation they use, playing with that much intensity and physicality does wear bodies down after a while. If it’s fatigue, then it may be tough slogging between now and the end of the SEC tournament, but at least the NCAA tourney gives the opportunity to get 4 full days in between weekends.

It's tough on the road.
And the SEC is not an easy women’s conference. Glad they come back for a home stand.

I am the novice here, but I believe it to be the toughest women's conference in the country....
So they are going to have to get themselves righted quickly.
