Ok, we all knew the UK Hoops team played good defense. The "40 Minutes Of Dread" label doesn't come from playing a little press every now and then. But this was a new kind of hurt they brought this time. In more ways than one. 23 points is the least ever given up by a UK Hoops team in history. That's right, history. The funny part is, they didn't always press Alcorn State into mistakes, although they definitely did enough of that. This time they did something that they are just not used to doing, they played zone. They REALLY played zone. Anytime you can hold an opponent to low points is a plus, but UK only allowed one 3-pt shot the whole game, and forced 36 turnovers, with many of those coming out of that zone. This game was almost flawless, and the stats back that up.
UK out-rebounded, out scored, out shot, and out hustled the Lady Braves in every stat that exists. Kentucky racked up 17 steals and 7 blocks to go along with those 36 T.O.'s they forced. Add in 17-21 at the foul line, 33-65 from the field, and 43 rebounds and you basically have an almost flawless basketball game. Both DeNesha Stallworth and Samarie Walker scored in double digits, and controlled the paint from the opening tip off to the final buzzer. They joined three other Wildcats in scoring in double digits, as Bria Goss, A'Dia Mathies, and Jennifer O'Neill got in on the fun as well. Goss was a perfect 3-3 from the arc, and UK never led as the halftime score of 43-11 doubled up in the second. This game gives UK an 11 game winning streak, as well as a 28 game home winning streak. They are coming close to breaking several UK records in wins and OOC stats. Maybe they can send some game film over to the guys for inspiration for tomorrow's game?
