94-feet: No. 1 Kentucky vs. Tennessee

Over at CoachCal.com I take a look at the series history and superlatives in the long-standing UK vs. UT basketball rivalry. I also examine how the 'Cats are performing, both as a team and individuals, in the SEC so far this season. Here's an excerpt:

In Lexington, UK holds an 85-16 advantage against the Vols (with an additional UK win coming in the 1993 SEC Tournament held at Rupp Arena). And when the Cats have been ranked No. 1 (Associated Press) UK holds a 9-1 edge against Tennessee. The Vols only win against a No. 1 Kentucky squad came in 1966 against the famed Rupp's Runts, which is also the last time the two teams played with UK as the No. 1 team in the nation.

Nice story Ken

Pelphrey tied for the most blocks in a game vs Tenn? I woulda never guessed that one. May AD can erase a few more than that tonight. I’m really looking forward to TJ matching up with Stokes. Young Mr Stokes impressed me in the first game, I’d be willing to bet that Terrence is chomping at the bit to show him a thing or two. I’m just hoping that the care for each other and the chemistry that was in the LSU game continues to grow. These guys could be scary good.

Wow - Mike Phillips - Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while!
•Mike Phillips owns the UK rebounding record against UT with 28 boards in January 1976.

We lost that game – smh. That sophomore year was Phillips’ career pinnacle at Kentucky with Rick Robey hurt. Robey came back the next year to totally eclipse Phillips for his first All-American year as a junior and then again as a senior (he was a two year All-American) before being a first round NBA pick.

Nice article, Ken, thanks for the link.
