94-feet: When David took down Goliath
At CoachCal.com, in addition to a look at the UK/LSU series history and individual superlatives, I examine one of the iconic Kentucky victories of all-time, as the undermanned, supposedly out-talented Wildcats took on Shaquille O'Neal, Chris Jackson and the No. 9 LSU Tigers in a raucous Rupp Arena in February of 1990. But from the opening tip, the future Unforgettables (Richie Farmer, John Pelphrey, Deron Feldhaus, and Sean Woods), plus Reggie Hanson and Derrick Millar, a team most thought would not win five games all year, played with precision execution, and took the game straight to the more talented Tigers.

I asked Dale about that very game when I met him at Rupp last year......
He said he had more bad memories of Rupp than any other place in the world…….I assume that was with tongue planted firmly in-cheek…..but then again, maybe not……
He is still as always a really great guy tp talk to. We loved to hate on him when he coached, but he was one guy that the NCAA did not dictate to, the press did not dictate to, and the fans truly loved and worshipped in Baton Rouge. Watching Shaq take his come uppance that day was icing on the cake that season.

I was there that day, Ken
and it was the loudest I ever heard Rupp Arena. Poeple complain about the “blue hairs” but one of them gave me a high five during the game.
