RECRUITING: Don't we need a 2012 PG?
I was just looking at Scout's new Top 100 rankings yesterday, and it looks like we're in pretty good with 2013 top PG Andrew Harrison and his brother Aaron, along with some other good prospects. However, when I started to wonder "do we have a PG coming in from the 2012 class?" and looked at the list, Kentucky's not anywhere on it.
Do we have a 2012 PG? Do we need one? HALP.
**UPDATE: Didn't think of Ryan Harrow, but then I didn't know he was supposed to be a PG. CRISIS AVERTED?

Ryan Harrow was Cal’s choice for his 2012-13 PG. UK’s only official offer was to LJ Rose, who ended up committing to Baylor. Kentucky backed off Rose after getting Harrow’s transfer.
It’s important to note two things: (1) the 2012 class was considered very weak at the PG position, and (2) it’s still not absolute that Marquis Teague won’t be a Cat next season.
Good Points
L.J. Rose is a 4-star 2012 prospect. There is no 5-star PG in the 2012 class right now. That may change as the spring/summer AAU action revs up but I don’t think so.
Harrow was a 5-star PG in Knight’s 2010 class who originally committed and played a year at N.C. State. He’s fast, is a good shooter, has a tremendous handle and is a great passer. Reportedly, he doesn’t handle physical contact well and, as we have seen this year, that can be a problem.
Ryan Harrow.
Crisis averted. He’s not a Rose, Evans, Wall, or Knight. His biggest knock is his size (he’s listed in most places at 5’11’’), but he’s fast and can score.
Besides Harrow ...
… I think it’s possible Teague may need to return for another year.
NBADraft.net currently has him at 21st, and DX doesn’t even have him in their 2012 draft, but rather in their 2013 lottery.
Right now, he is in a position to easily slip to the second round, so until we get a better read on that, I’d say that Harrow is the only alternative.

DraftExpress.com's 2012 Mock Draft ...
doesn’t list Teague in either round. Plenty of time for that to change but, imo, for him to re-emerge as a 1st-round pick, his overall consistency will have to rise and his scoring will have to average around 15 PPG. Click here for DraftExpress.com’s 2012 Mock Draft.
Yeah, ...
I should have gotten your ‘DX’ reference, sorry.
No point guard at Point Guard U?
This cannot happen!!!!…..lol…
Cal has high hopes for Harrow, but as Glenn points out, Teague’s return would be his best bet at this point. The last half of the year could change that, though.

I can't wait to see Harrow next year
It seems like there’s slimmer pickings among the 2012 point guards and I really think that Harrow having a year of practice with Cal, playing against top competition every day is going to make him a force to be reckoned with. I’d love to have a serviceable back-up. Cal’s successes with point guards scares away prospects once he’s got his man.
Nobody knows what Teague will do
I suspect it depends on what other PGs do. This is a weak draft for PGs. If Marshall, Wroten, and Kabongo all come out maybe Teague heads back to school since 2013 draft is also weak at PG. Teague could come back for the same reason Terrence Jones did, a major increase in stock. Cal’s the best at getting his players accurate info, so I’m sure Teague will make the right choice (whatever that may be).
Historical info on PGs in the draft:
There were 9 PGs picked in the first round last year, only 3 the year before that, 10 in 2009, and only 5 in 2008. There’s variation, but I suspect there’s no way Teague is worse than the 5th best PG prospect this season. I’d bet he’s a late first round pick right now. Remember for a reference point that Eric Bledsoe went 18th overall.
Coming back from his injury, ...
Bledsoe is headed for the Bakersfield Jam in the Development League for a two-game rehab assignment and could re-join the team for Sunday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Click Here
I'm a Clippers fan
We really needed him when CP3 was out. Believe it or not, the Clips actually played Courtney Fortson. I know! He’s terrible.
Thanks for the input.
I don’t think Teague is ready to make the jump right now, either. Then again, I don’t think anyone thought Brandon Knight was gone at this point last season, either.
Teague has come leaps and bounds since November. I was talking to a guy the other night that was complaining about his non-scoring appearance against Geogia, but I responded that he had 7 assists, no turnovers, and didn’t allow his man to score hardly at all. Since we’ve come to learn that his role on this team is to distribute rather than score, I don’t know what more you could ask from the kid. We’ll see.
