Links to illegal streams prohibited on A Sea of Blue
Folks, guidance has just come down from above that links to illegal streaming sites are no longer allowed on SB Nation communities.
As a result, the Community Guidelines have been updated to reflect this policy Please note that this action is necessary to prevent legal liability for A Sea of Blue and SB Nation sites. Let's all please observe this requirement.
Note that I am not trying to say you can't watch a game at such sites, I have no desire to police the Internet, nor tell you what you can and cannot watch. But we cannot allow links to illegal streaming sites on A Sea of Blue anywhere, even in the comments.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding, it is always appreciated.

I assume that asking people to email each other about game locations and broadcasts
on here does not violate that?? Or are we concerned that an act of that type might lead to other problems?

I can't legitimately control something like that.
Nor would I try. But I cannot give out emails myself, that’s forbidden by our privacy policy.

The powers that be. '-)
A true displeasure for me not to be able to help my Blue family living elsewhere in need of catching the game. Yes, it is a real need. ;-)
I do understand though.
Notice: I want to help you peeps wherever you may be and since I no longer can, please don’t ask me. ’-)

Good question.
I really don’t know. Our policy, insofar as I can determine, applies to links directly to sites with illegal streams.
Third-party linking is not really a violation of the letter of the policy, but it would seem to be problematic with respect to the spirit of it.
But I’m not sure how I can, or should, enforce something that isn’t clearly our policy, unless I receive further guidance — which I have requested. Until I receive it, I will be enforcing only the policy as written.

I've never seen one of those links on here either (I wouldn't recognize one if it popped me in the keester) but
I would watch this team with Philippine announcers (or any other language) … it would be funny for a while and then I would turn the sound down …. people sometimes don’t realize it’s an addiction
I understand.
I totally sympathize. The fact remains that they violate US copyright law.
Trust me when I tell you I don’t like it when people violate my copyrights, and they do. They get C & D letters from our lawyers when that happens, and it happens more than you would think.
I’d be the fist to agree that US copyright law is badly broken, and breaking them more by imputing guilt to the innocent, like SOPA and PIPA would do, is not the answer. I understand the motivations of the interests pushing these laws are mostly directed offshore to infringers in foreign lands like China, but unintended consequences have done more to damage U.S. jurisprudence than anything else in history. For an example, you need only look at the prosecutorial abuse of the RICO statute.
But we have to protect ourselves, and if it makes it in any way harder for you, I am sorry.

I read this as "no linking"
it says nothing about telling someone the site without adding the link…so there ya go, problem solved
