Mounting A Comeback, Or: How I Learned To Stop Whining And Love ASOB

Some months ago, to something looking much like pomp and not a lot of circumstance, I abruptly left the blog, citing my differences with the prevailing attitudes concerning our football program and what time we spent going back and forth on here accomplishing almost as much as a lone Democrat in a Republican rally. At the time it seemed like the better part of valor, allowing the prevailing "making the best of a bad situation" attitude to have it's day and keeping my own version of a broken record out of the discussion. I thought that if my divisive approach was not a part of the mix it would make for more harmony all around. Since that day, there has not been a week go by that someone has not e-mailed me or messaged me asking for my return, as well as some well worded pleas for me to return to my sanity at the time, which I ignored in my own stupidity. So, with a mouth full of humble pie, and mea culpas a-plenty, I hereby return to the scene of the crime, in full realization that the only accomplishment I have to show for my actions is a lot more free time on my hands. So, with no further nonsense, and a request for leniency and understanding from the masses, I have returned with my hat in hand, my wit as razor sharp as ever, and my opinions in full verse. Please excuse my ignorance, as hopefully I have learned my lesson. If not, then I will continue making a fool out of myself at most turns, much to my own chagrin, and allowing my comments and opinions to reinforce the opinion that some already hold of me, which is that I am completely full of it anyway. My thanks to all of those who sent messages, you already know who you are. Maybe from now on my mouth won't go overboard writing checks that my backside will never get a chance to cash.

Bienvenido Hogar

Looking forward to your BB commentary. As for FB, as I told you previously, I find that silence is appreciated and quite therapeutic.

You got emails??

I left for 5-6months and heard not a word. I didn’t leave for any reasons here but I digress. I applaud those, like you,who differ in their opinions of the majority. Majority rules is one reason our congress is in such a mess. Rule #1 there seems to be don’t dare break party lines or do what’s best for the country. But I digress again. There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion on here even if it goes against what the majority thinks. Of course sometimes if one does that with the all the subtlety of a slegehammer it can cause a problem. I have been guilty of that myself. Anyway welcome back and I would sure love to see those emails.

welcome back, Greg.

I thought I should probably say something, however, to tell you the truth, that first fanpost sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not sure why you felt it necessary to announce your leaving in such a fashion, but at any rate, you definitely add color to the place so I’m quite glad you grew up, wised up and are now back with us.

Well, to be honest, since your football presence is limited, you probably were not aware of some things that I went back and forth with Glenn on.

I felt like rather than make it an issue which would get me removed, that I should step aside. My informing everyone was so that Glenn would not have a lot of questions to answer about possibly retaliation by banning me. And probably a little bit of ego on my part as well.

As to the growing up part, don’t bet on it.

Thanks.

But I love to get into arguments with GAE, so I’m kind of glad he’s back.

I have a different opinion this time

I don’t comment on this blog…but since you brought it up.

I am one of the people that don’t appreciate your style or your attitude, Greg.

You and Forty are the 2 biggest trolls I have personally ever seen on the entire Internet. And yes, that’s saying something. And yes, I’m serious. To be honest, you and Forty, in my opinion, are 2 big reasons the contributions of ASOB have never been fully appreciated by the masses. I know it’s had that effect on me. I just KNOW that every time I place a statistic in the comments section, it’s going to be followed with a definitive contrariwise opinion of Greg and Forty. It’s as sure as the sun rising.

So although I support every man’s right to express himself creatively in however form he chooses, and while I fully understand that at the end of the day, ASOB isn’t that damn important to living a happy life, and yes, while I do understand that this is just some random blog comment section on the Internet, I do want you to at least be aware (for your own self-monitoring) that there are a lot of people in the world who do notice you…and don’t like you very much because you’re a pompous ass know-it-all with a bad attitude.

Just keepin’ it real, man. And I’m not saying anything I wouldn’t say to your face either. I personally feel much more relaxed knowing you and Forty aren’t going to be trolling the comments and if you want to keep your opinions to yourself, I’m personally OK with that. I enjoy ASOB much better when you do.

By the way, stats and tendencies, facts and figures are wonderful things.

And if they were always the determining factors in competition, I guess it wouldn’t be necessary to play the games. They are great for recording history. I just don’t trust them for predicting it. But, to each his (or her) own.

by Greg Alan Edwards on Jan 19, 2012 9:06 AM EST up reply actions

Oh to be Forty

And I’m not saying that because I just turned 50. I have had my ups and downs with Forty. When I first got here I too thought he may be a troll. But I learned he does know his stuff especially when it comes to stats. Sometimes he comes off as being high and mighty but I think it’s because he is direct and straight to the point. He has called me on some points before because I didn’t check to see if I was right or wrong especially when it came to stats. While I don’t always agree with him I do feel he has made me a more responsible blogger because I now take the time to check before I post. Usually….

by maysvilleblue on Jan 19, 2012 6:11 PM EST up reply actions

Hey, he cost me a picture in a dang Louisville hat......lol.....

but you are right, he knows his stats, and he knows how to interpret them better than anyone I have ever seen. He’s almost like a dang statbook/thesaurus when it comes to UK info and history.

Honestly, with a name like the one above, I don’t put a lot of stock in information or opinion. If someboday can’t do better than to make their name out of an expletive, hey, what do you think you’ll get?
