Go Big Blue

Thompson Bolling is going to need some new paint on the locker room walls. I bet the visitor room has boiling paint about now.

Until Cal stops with the one-and-dones

this argument is never going to go away,

but all I have to say is that there are kids all over the country who dream of playing in Rupp and I’m glad they get the chance.

I understand we're back on top because of who we are recruiting.

I just want a team to stick around. I know they can’t pass up the NBA dollars. I get it. I just hate us being the place to audition for the NBA.

Like that half, I would like to unsee it.

Fortunately its a new half and I really want to see this one. I think we come out with a little fire in our belly. Let’s see what we’re made of.

by sweasyf on Jan 14, 2012 1:12 PM EST up reply actions

So, what's the problem?

Defense……..pretty good…..we’ve held them to 34 points.
Rebounding……..not so good. Need to improve.
Free throws……….would be at least tied now.
Offense……….Ding ding ding………what offense? Can you tell me what were trying to do offensively?

ok, here's the thing.

I actually totally agree with you that it’s a pain, all the complaining about officiating, but I sort of liken it to going to a bar and then getting pissed that they are serving alcohol. See, this is a live game thread, and complain, bitch, nit-pick and reading about fans getting irritated by the littlest and stupidest things is sort of it’s purpose, you know?

by BigSkyCat on Jan 14, 2012 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

Experiences like this are opportunities to grow.

I doubt Cal is blistering the paint off the walls. Players need coaching not screaming.
That was a terrible call against Teague and Cal had to defend his player.

I am looking forward to the second half and how the guys handle it.

Thats a little too much to ask from a young team I think.

One of these days we will lay an egg. Not looking forward to it, but I would wager large sums that it will happen. (It will be a good learning experience also, as they all are).

I agree its bold, but I think its achievable.

something about this team, MKG maybe, just absolutely will not accept a loss. This team has got to have more heart than any other in the country and I think it stems from MKG and the Brow.

Great win

I don’t want to get too excited, but there was a lot of growth in that game. Play defense, block out, scrap and you can still win in a tough arena when shots aren’t falling. Loved it absolutely loved it.

Teague showed me some real good stuff today: taking care of the ball and running the O.

I actually would support him for the game ball. Two months ago those horrible charge block calls in each half would haven taken him out of the game. Today he stuck with it. That is growth.

One last point, did anyone notice the emotion out of Miller after a foul in the second half? When a guy who never reacts to officials reacts, that tells you all you need to know about the officiating. Which I am fine with btw. Deal with it and fight through it. It is a journey not an event.

that was a bad call against DM

by Bluehound on Jan 14, 2012 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

that one was, I agree.

But, I have noticed that he does push off on occasion. I am the only one who thinks this? It isn’t malicious or anything and it may be just habit, but he does sometimes push off in order to try and put some distance between him and his man and sometimes he gets called on it.

Yep.

It’s a foul, though. The officials are really adept at looking for the little shove in the back.

Not so adept at the hook around the waist, apparently. :-(

A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan

by Glenn Logan on Jan 14, 2012 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

no, I agree.

I guess that wasn’t made apparent in my comment above, but yes, I agree, it is a foul.

If it has become habit, and seeing as how Miller is a senior I’m not super optimistic about it changing at this point, but yes, he definitely needs to back off a bit. Or, at least see how tight the officials are calling the particular game and then go about his business.

by BigSkyCat on Jan 14, 2012 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

I noticed that immediately cause I was focused on DM

His player left him and turned to the basket to go for a rebound, when the rebound sailed over his head and to DM they called a push off. Darius didn’t touch the guy. In the end, the number of fouls were about even, but it sure seems most fouls called in our “favor” interrupted something good that was happening for us, so just counting fouls means nothing. I might have to watch this one again and do a better job watching the officiating. It was bad.
