The Lady Vols Fall to the UK Hoops Team

Use this post (instead of JLev's excellent piece) to congratulate the 9th ranked, until next week that is, UK Hoops team, the Lady Cats, or Matt's Cats, whichever you choose to call them. They are one tough group of tough Cats. They defeated the 6th ranked Lady Vols tonight in Memorial Coliseum with a final score of 61-60.

I don't have any links to post, as nothing is showing up yet. Linky. The game was a nail-biter, that is for sure. A'dia Mathies, career high 34 points, scored a bucket with 4 seconds left to put UK up by one then UT missed a shot at the buzzer. With this win our Hoops team ended the Lady Vols 36 game winning streak in the SEC. Way to go ladies. Job well done! Congratulations!

[Added by Glenn] I just want to add my congratulations to the team, and to coach Mitchell. Kentucky women's basketball, or "Hoops" as it is known, has now reached elite status. Defeating Tennessee as a closely-ranked competitor was something that had never occurred to any of us as a real possibility even as few as four years ago. Yes, UK Hoops has been on an upward trajectory for awhile, but this is truly a momentous occasion.

Star-divide

There is simply no way to overstate the job that Matthew Mitchell has done here at Kentucky, and as a result, the Wildcats' recruiting has improved year after year. This is impressive work by the coaching staff, and it feels really good to finally be at a level where we can honestly compete with Tennessee instead of just upsetting them now and then.

Kudos to the Hoops squad, and to Coach Mitchell.

Nah. :-)

I didn’t think his great work should get filled up with Hoops ball. Besides, they deserve their own spotlight.

Amazing game by the Lady Cats

Gave up the big lead, fell behind, but came back to win. That doesn’t happen often.

Only saw the second half and really enjoyed it. I love how they play.

Whenever

I read comments, in that struggling Lexington newspaper, regarding the AD position at UK my first thought goes to Mitchell and his crazy band of Ladycats.
Could there have been a two better hires than the basketball coaches found at UK??
There are problems at the football camp and they are acknowledged although not by those really need to acknowledge them. The b-ball season however is really a great time of year in Kentucky.

Was this a great night of college basketball or what?

UK Hoops v. Lady Vols, Minnesota v. Indiana, Tennessee v. Mississippi State, Virginia v. Duke. Each one a nail biter. Wow!

Congratulations to the Lady Cats!

Did I read that correctly in Moyers notes that Mitchell was 30-29 before taking over UK? Just goes to show that wins and losses aren’t always the best way to judge what a head coach can do.

This is for Glenn about recruiting...

Mitchell has shown that a fast turn around in recruitment is possible. Why shouldn’t we expect the same in the football program?

It Could...

but only need a couple of players (maybe only 1) to start the turnaround in bball recruiting. whole different ball game in football…

only one rule in my house - uk has to be your favorite college bball team

They adopted "Hoops" a couple of years ago.

I haven’t found out where it came from.

You'll have to deal with it, WW.

I asked the same thing, to the darkness. And it did not reply.

There are some things that are better to accept, or perhaps modify to “Wildcats Hoops.” :-)

Heh.

I remember asking on here, two or three times, and “it” didn’t reply. I now have accepted it and I think wineman is probably is on the right track with the identity thing.
