So why don't we ever hear discussion of UK leaving the SEC? I admit, I am not well-versed in the details of such a proposition, but it seems to me like something that should be considered. Why don't we move to the ACC, Big East or Big Ten (Big 12, too)? We'd be more competitive in ACC football, I think. We'd have stiffer competition in basketball. For the Big East (I recognize the Louisville problem) and Big 10, at least we'd be the most southern school, and perhaps that could become a recruiting advantage. Also, in both cases I don't think the basketball gets any worse than the SEC.
There has been much talk recently about various schools joining the SEC. We talk mostly about the move in terms of football. As last night proved (to me, at least), UK will never truly compete in SEC football. As the northern most school in the conference, they really don't have a shot. We will continue to hope for 7-win seasons and that will be that.
We have a lot of SEC tradition we'd be leaving behind, sure. But might we become more competitive in another conference? Has this been discussed as an option? Thanks for indulging me!
