Since I was a 9 year old boy I have carried inside of me a deep seeded hatred of Duke and a heart felt sorrow over a particular game that happened during the 91-92 NCAA Tournament. Today, while I still hate Duke with a passion, I have lain the sorrow to rest and replaced it with a sense of pride.
It may not be 100% reliable, but I ran the match-up on whatifsports.com beyond a seven game series on a neutral court... in fact I took it to fifty... The Cats won just ten games usually within five points and usually lost by as much as ten or more. One game even had us losing by thirty plus. Maybe I was just too young to realize how outmatched we were statistically, I don't know; but, looking at the footage of that game realizing how poor our odds were and knowing how close Kentucky came to beating the odds kind of gave me a sense of pride, knowing especially how poor the odds were that Duke's final play would work the way it did and that that is what it took to beat the Unforgetables that day.
Maybe my sentiment isn't mirrored by anyone else based solely on the predictions of a machine, but it is what it is and now, I don't think its half bad.
