Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: Darius Miller Makes Final 14 For The World University Games Team
Darius Miller has made the final 14 players for Matt Painter's World University Games team. According to Jeff Goodman of CBS, here are the remaining 14 players with 2 more to be cut:
Guards
Marcus Denmon, Missouri
Ashton Gibbs, Pittsburgh
Scoop Jardine, Syracuse
John Jenkins, Vanderbilt
Orlando Johnson, UC Santa Barbara
Ray McCallum, Detroit
Shabazz Napier, UConn
Forwards
Tim Abromaitis, Notre Dame
Draymond Green, Michigan State
Trevor Mbakwe, Minnesota
Darius Miller, Kentucky
Aaric Murray, West Virginia
Centers
JaMychal Green, Alabama
Greg Mangano, Yale
From my perspective, the most likely cuts remaining would come from the back court, although one could come from the forwards. It's hard to imagine either of the centers getting cut at this point, because you need a starter and a backup at every position, but Aaric Murray, who Goodman lists as a forward, is 6'10" and could play center.
I think Miller's likely to make it because of his flexibility. He can either play the wing forward or a bit of th 2-guard if Painter wants to go big. This looks to me like a very competitive team Painter is putting together.

Congrats to Darius!
I’m a little surprised Middleton and English were cut; I thought that would have been Miller’s primary competition at SF. That bodes well.
I think Draymond Green is the starting SF, but Miller fits in naturally as a backup SF that can provide instant scoring or length on D. I’d be surprised if he were cut, since that would leave Green as the only true 3.
Jorts and DeAndre both said he had improved tons this summer.
They said he was “super” strong now.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Team looks guard heavy....I would expect to see that list whittled down.
Forwards and C’s look set

Very Strong At PF
Draymond Green and Trevor Mbakwe are both quality Big Ten PF.
Green was a UK verbal in 2007 but opted for Mich St after a coaching change.

Good for DM
I agree that the most likely cuts look to come from the backcourt. My completely off-the-cuff guesses are Jardine and Napier.

Off Topic
There was an excellent article in yesterday’s St Petersburg Times re Desmond Allison. Definitely worth reading if available on line. I would link it here myself but I have absolutley no idea how to do that.
One Inaccuracy In The Article
CM Newton insisted on the No Second Chances policy, not Tubby.
This team is woefully inadequate in the post
J. Green of Alabama is only listed at 6-8. I fear this team will have real trouble defending international teams in the post area. Miller can defend in the post (although at 6-6 that will be a load of effort), but that should also bode well for him.
Mbakwe Is A Powerful Post Defender
Excellent shot blocker and rebounder.

Not so sure it is a given just yet
I would cut Ray McCallum based on his size and experience. I don’t know anything about Orlando Johnson except that he averaged 20pts a game, so I would probably keep him. I like the rest of the guards. So I would probably cut Abromatis. I just think he is slow. He can shoot the lights out, but does he really offer much more than that? I think Miller makes the team, but don’t be shocked if he gets cut.
