Kentucky Wildcats Football: Recruiting Momentum Picking Up

Editor's Note, and totally unrelated to jc's outstanding football post: Ryan Harrow has enrolled in summer school at Kentucky, making his transfer from NC State official.

Over the past two weeks, the Kentucky Wildcats football program picked up five additional commitments for the 2012 recruiting class. We at A Sea of Blue would be remiss not to briefly mention these future 'Cats.

Below, see the profiles for each of the recent commits. After the jump are the profiles for the three prospects previously committed to Kentucky.

We look forward to seeing all of them don the blue and white!

DeMarcus Sweat, WR

Measurables: 6'1", 185 lbs
High School: Stephenson (Stone Mountain, GA)
Commit Date: 5/29/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Indiana, FIU, Purdue
ESPNU Ranking: 3*, WR #72
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Sweat is a big and smooth receiver with adequate-to-good foot speed, but more importantly he is a deep threat because he knows how to set defenders up and he makes a ton of plays on the deep ball when contested. [...] We feel Sweat has BCS upside as an outside redzone guy and an inside between the numbers pass catcher out of the slot. Good player.

Shawn Blaylock, CB

Measurables: 5'11", 173 lbs
High School: Stephenson (Stone Mountain, GA)
Commit Date: 6/2/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Arkansas St, Illinois, Indiana, Memphis
ESPNU Ranking: Unranked

Zach Blaylock, S

Measurables: 5'11", 190 lbs
High School: Walton (Marietta, GA)
Commit Date: 6/5/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Duke, Maryland, Louisville, Cincinnati
ESPNU Ranking: 2*, S #65
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Blaylock is a productive half-field safety with good range and well-balanced skill-set. Lacks a few inches of desired height but has some length to his frame and is really well put-together. In coverage, he needs to smoothen out his transitional skills and hips but he comes out of his pedal with better than adequate burst and is direct out of his breaks. [...] Solid prospect with good instincts and a competitive edge that may help to mask his weaker areas.

Daron Blaylock, OLB

Measurables: 6'0", 210 lbs
High School: Walton (Marietta, GA)
Commit Date: 6/5/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Duke, Maryland, Louisville, Cincinnati
ESPNU Ranking: 2*, OLB #76
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Blaylock is a good-looking safety prospect with the size, range and closing burst sought-after at the position. Tall, well-built with good thickness and functional strength. Already has close to ideal strong safety measurables and could grow out of the position in time. Displays good underneath range and run support skills; could play a hybrid type position at the next level or develop into a pure outside linebacker.[...] Overall, Blaylock has a lot of physical tools to develop on defense and should be a standout on special teams as well.

Jonathan Reed, CB

Measurables: 5'9", 175 lbs
High School: Pike (Indianapolis, IN)
Commit Date: 6/8/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Marshall, Bowling Green, Temple, Toledo, Western Michigan
ESPNU Ranking: 3*, CB #36
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Reed is a versatile defensive back with good ball awareness skills and underneath production. Falling under the radar. Lacks ideal height but has good length and solid strength on his frame. [...] Overall, this guy has a lot of desirable traits as an underneath zone corner when projecting for the college level but just lacks optimal size and speed. Hip fluidity is not ideal as well and he is a bit straight-line. That said, Reed is definitely a sleeper in our eyes with scheme versatility, instincts and overall play that should warrant some BCS looks.

Josh Harris, OLB

Measurables: 6'2", 195 lbs
High School: Mason County (Maysville, KY)
Commit Date: 2/27/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Illinois, NC State, Western Kentucky
ESPNU Ranking: 3*, OLB #64
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Harris is a playmaker both on offense and defense. We feel his height, athleticism and playing speed are better suited for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition; over time he will need to add bulk to his frame. This athlete displays the tough hard nosed tackling skills necessary to be a productive special team's coverage player. [...] Harris appears to be an athlete in need of some time and perhaps a red shirt year; this will allow him to polish his skills while working towards serious defensive playing time.

Thomas Chapman, DT

Measurables: 6'3", 290 lbs
High School: DuPont Manual (Louisville, KY)
Commit Date: 2/27/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Louisville, Illinois
ESPNU Ranking: 3*, DT #46
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Chapman is a good sized defensive tackle who displays that he can be tough inside. He will move around the defensive line in high school, but at the college level he is an interior player. [...] He looks best suited to develop into a run defender. You will see him try and work to half-a-man and at times can get up-field and get some penetration, but needs to use his hands more to help him clear from blocks. Chapman is big kid and displays the potential to get bigger. Needs to keep developing his game and will likely settle in as a two-gap run defending tackle.

Patrick Towles, QB

Measurables: 6'4", 230 lbs
High School: Highlands (Fort Thomas, KY)
Commit Date: 4/1/11
Other Offers/Schools Considering: Cincinnati, Louisville, Illinois
ESPNU Ranking: 4*, QB #23
ESPNU Evaluation Excerpt: Link ($)

Towles is definitely flying under the radar both as an athlete and passer. He possesses a supreme blend of size, arm strength and dual-threat ability. He is a gifted athlete with great feet that is dangerous when outside the pocket or called upon in the run game. He can be very raw, but he has tools to mold. He is reminiscent of Bubba Starling from the 2011 class. [...] We would be surprised if Towles' prospects don't heat up dramatically in the spring and summer months. He can wing it and he can run and he is blessed with great size.
