Coaching the "I" out of the Team & Darius Miller Invited to University Games Tryout
In my latest effort for CoachCal.com, I take a look at the coaching challenges Calipari faces due to the incredible amount of talent dotting the UK roster.
In big news for Darius Miller, he has been invited to participate in the tryouts for the 2011 USA Basketball World University Games. The tryouts are July 29-August 7 at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The 12-member team will represent the USA at the 2011 World University Games held in Shenzhen, China August 13-23.
Miller had this to say about the invitation: "It's an honor to be invited to the tryouts, where the ultimate goal is a chance to represent our country. I'm just as excited for the opportunity to play against some of the best basketball talent in the nation."
Congratulations and good luck to Miller! I'm sure he will represent Kentucky with the utmost class.

Good column
Here are three underrated questions I have dealing with roster management next year:
1. Can Cal keep the underclassmen vs. upperclassmen dynamic satiated between the one true starting 5 battle – Darius Miller vs. Michael Gilchrist?
2. Can Cal turn Eloy Vargas lemons into lemonade, a la Josh Harrellson?
3. Which role player will step up as a crucial third guard, Jon Hood, Stacey Poole, or both?
My Guesses
Gilchrist is #1 player in 2011 HS class (by some) and Top 3 by nearly everyone. He starts at UK.
Miller may play key 6th man role at both wing spots.
Vargas will provide back-up depth at C maybe 5-10 minutes.
Hood and/or Poole MUST develop into 10-15 minutes of PT.

I read an interesting allegory today
Seems as if it was the difference between hell and heaven.
In hell, several people were sitting around a circular table in the middle of which was a pot of delicious stew. Each person held a long-handled spoon that was longer than his arm. All the people looked absolutely miserable, because while each could reach his spoon into the stew, he couldn’t get it to his mouth because the handle was too long for his arm.
In heaven, it was the same scenario. People sitting around a circular table with a pot of delectable stew in the middle. Each person held a long-handled spoon longer than his arm. However, each person was absolutely delighted and happy. Seems the people in heaven had figured out how to feed each other.
nice one jdog!
get the player’s to feed one another and everyone is happy!
I have kleptomania,
but when it gets bad,
I take something for it.
Miller Starts Majority Of Games
(injury notwithstanding). Attribute it to senior syndrome if you wish.
