Louisville Cardinals: Ahead In Director's Cup, Behind On The Field

Mike Rutherford at the Card Chronicle has taken the opportunity of the final Director's Cup standings, which finds Louisville at 32nd and Kentucky at 35th, to puff out his chest a bit on behalf of the Louisville Cardinals.  Congratulations to Louisville on coming out tops in the state in the DC standings.

Of course, you realize that we here at A Sea of Blue cannot let such braggadocio from Louisville partisans go unchallenged, especially considering that the DC standings do not take into account the head-to-head contests on the field.  Here's how they worked out (via UKAthletics.com):

• Baseball:  At Louisville (W) 3-1, vs. Louisville (W) 7-1
• Basketball:  At Louisville (W) 78-63
• Football:  At Louisville (W) 23-16
• Women's Basketball:  At Louisville (L) 78-52
• Softball:  At Louisville (L) 6-0, vs. Louisville (W) 14-8
• Volleyball:  vs. Louisville (W) 3-2

By my count, that is 6 wins by Kentucky teams, and 2 wins by Louisville teams.  Trust me when I say that I will take those results over a Director's Cup position or three any day.
