Jay Bilas Bashes NCAA for Targeting Kentucky
Jay Bilas, an ESPN commentator who is oft outspoken about the absurd NCAA rules and regulations, fired shots at the NCAA regarding its decision to chastise Kentucky for celebrating John Calipari's (officially redacted) 500th win. He used everyone's favorite medium, Twitter (@JayBilas), to do so. The screengrab, courtesy of John Clay, can be found after the jump.
Rush the Court, a college basketball blog, goes one step further in pointing out the absurdity of the NCAA witch hunt. The author cites specific examples, including the Steve Fisher celebration mentioned by Bilas, in which schools have touted vacated wins as actual wins. Maybe Bilas is right: let's just celebrate the losses Calipari has caused instead.

The celebration of 500 losses is funny
UK should absolutely do that.

Just make sure the cake is decorated to correctly note that some wins were vacated!

Wait, wait ...
… we’re celebrating opponent losses, remember? No wins on that cake! :-)

See, I think you should do both
Calipari: so good he can beat you even when he doesn’t win.

I want to see Jerry Tipton's
position at the Herald Leader vacated.
I woke up feeling BLUE this morning. It's gonna be a great day.

While we're at it
When Coach Eyechart at Duke passes Bob Knight next season, I want someone to ask how many of those wins included Corey Maggette.
That would be priceless!!!!
I’d pay money to get someone to ask that guest ion and the put the resulting sour look on Krzyzewski’s face for media distribution! Truly Priceless!
I do not recommend anyone getting into a debate with Mr. Bilas....
his smart, slick and well schooled. The man knows his stuff and would make almost anyone look silly that wants to get into a back and forth with him. I think he is one of the best analysts and thinkers at ESPN. And I don’t care what school he went too either.
Slower Traffic Keep Right!
I agree with this completely
I’ve always liked Bilas, not least of which because he always provides a cogent argument for his position on things.

Neither of those perspectives is surprising
seeing how Bilas has a law degree.
One of the bad things
about lawyers is not how smart they are but how smart they think they are.

I think,
a lot of times, and in some cases with lawyers as that is the profession we are discussing here, I think abundant confidence is misconstrued as arrogance (what you mean in your post) , but I certainly wouldn’t want a lawyer on my side that wasn’t totally 100% confident in his abilities.
My stepdad is a lawyer in Texas of all places and I can tell you that yeah, he’s super arrogant, but he’s also really really confident. I’d want him on my side in a heartbeat.
That is not exactly where I was going.
Many lawyers I have met make it plain that they think they are more intelligent that almost everybody around them. I am sure they need to think that way to an extent because winning points of contention is their business but it is demeaning to be dismissed in an argument because you don’t happen to have a law degree.

It wasn't aimed
at Bilas particularly, just a general observation that popped into my mind. I think that Bilas is objective in his observations of the sports world and that is refreshing.

You repeat this "general observation" pretty often on this site.
Project your own insecurity much? Maybe you should hang out with better lawyers. It costs a little more though.
Sir, I assure you I am not insecure,
just not appreciative of people with superior attitudes.
I woke up feeling BLUE this morning. It's gonna be a great day.
That is an attitude that is not unique to lawyers ;-)

Funny stuff
Usually he is spot on his analysis. If I do happen to disagree with him on one of his opinions he usually has a logical argument. I have to admit, I didn’t like when he was critical of Billy Clyde initially, but he turned out to be more right than many of us were at the time.
DOES anyone Still Think.....
the ncaa has an erection on for UK… the only time emmertt’s tadpoles couldn’t slam the door on UK was the Bledsoe situation…. that was because Alabama wouldn’t bend to ncaa pressure about made up work… now that the Bledsoe case is history, they have since revised some of the high school make up work rules… There is an agenda here with the ncaa and its efforts to twart UK and it starts at the top… I don’t always agree with Jay Bilas or Charles Barkley, but they both have their expertise levels of the game. There is someone in the background at the ncaa that is exercising their opinion and position on all that is related to UK basketball… No one cared less than the ncaa when BCG was coach and the CATS were not able to win like they can now… someone is watching every move UK makes and everything they do… I just wish I knew how to smoke ’em out!
The Steve Fischer point is a very good one
But no one cares about SDSU.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
I like the 500 losses caused party idea
but if that doesn’t satisfy everyone, combine it with a ‘walking off the court 500 times with more points on the scoreboard than the other team’ party. Tweak the NCAA’s nose a bit….
