A great issue. Here are a few tidbits.
Clark Francis lists his top college coaches and top assistants. John Calipari is # 2 behind Coach K. Orlando Antigua is # 31 on the list of assistants. Former UK coaches come in at # 4 and # 14 on the list of head coaches. And Billy Donovan # 10 also on the list.
There's a great comparison of the two best HS classes of all time - 1979 and 2007. The better class? 1979 but it's close. That class sent 61 different players to the NBA (eventually). UK signed the # 1 class in 1979 but never realized its full potential (in part, due to Sam Bowie's injury plagued career).
BT opines that Ralph Sampson may be the last player who earns Basketball HOF honors due to his college play and accomplishments. The great ones won't play 4 years in college ever again.
Billy Reed (longtime KY sportswriter) wrote a GREAT article on why Bill Spivey deserves to be in the HOF too. He mentions that the 1952 UK team (29-3 without Spivey) may have been the greatest UK team ever if Spivey hadn't sat out of competition (voluntarily). Certainly they would have been undefeated and NCAA champs with him playing.
Terrence Jones named to BT 3rd team A-A. Jones and Brandon Knight both named 1st team All-Frosh A-A. Not a peep about John Calipari for COY even on regional lists.
Neat story elsewhere in BT about John Wooden's great-grandson Tyler Trapani (UCLA walk-on) scoring the last points ever by UCLA in Pauley Pavilion. Trapani had played 1 minute apiece in the 2 prior years and had never scored a point in a college game before.
Lots more but I can't type everything. BT (no website but published by The Hoop Group) remains a GREAT read every month.
