More Bob Knight Inaccuracy, Just For The Record
Jeff Eisenberg at Yahoo.com wrote today about Bob Knight's recent tirade in Wabash, Indiana. In there, he reminded me of this earlier comment by Knight re: John Calipari:
"We've gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that's why I'm glad I'm not coaching," Knight said. "You see we've got a coach at Kentucky who put two schools on probation and he's still coaching. I really don't understand that." [Emphasis mine]
Even the ESPN article linked above did not note that UMass was not placed on probation of any type for Marcus Camby's violations that resulted in the vacation of the 1996 Minutemen's Final Four appearance.
This is yet another example of how sadly uninformed Knight is on the subject of Kentucky and Calipari, but in this case, I'll be he has plenty of company. I have not seen a single outlet who reported this story accurately note that UMass did not receive probation of any type for Camby's transgressions.
Knight not only can't handle the truth, he wouldn't recognize it if it jumped up and bit him in the nether regions. It's fairly obvious he thinks Google is a baby food brand.
UPDATE: For the record, Deadspin gets this right today. Why can't the actual, you know, mainstream sports media do so?

Yes RMK's lies bother me.
But not as much as the people who believe those lies. I see comments all over now saying that it is UK’s responsibility to prove that those student-athletes went to class.
RMK stirring the pot is not unusual. He has hated UK for a very long time. But ESPN pushing him to the forefront does bother me. They (ESPN) are essentially telling the world that the words coming out of his mouth are legitimate and the truth. So now it is their time to stand up and accept the penalty for playing with a hand grenade. Print a retraction ESPN and save your integrity.
And to any Cal/UK haters out there who believe RMK? You are no better than he is..
Typical Bobby Knight.
He is just trying to bring the limelight to himself. To him it does not matter who he hurts with his comments!
Booby Knight - *yaaaawn*
Don’t have much to say that hasn’t already been said, but I won’t be holding my breath for an apology, a clarification, or an acknowledgment from ESPN that the basic facts here are incorrect. What Booby said was incorrect and mean-spirited, but then we knew that about him already.
On another topic, the deadline for draft declarations is this Friday correct? Has BK, Jones, or Liggins officially declared yet?
3 > 2, except for very large values of 2.
Sunday, I thought.
I haven’t seen anyone make a statement other than the one stating Lamb would be back.
yeah, just looked again
somehow April 23 = Friday to me.
3 > 2, except for very large values of 2.
Update (sorta): Knight (Brandon) has made up his mind...
but hasn’t said what it is yet, according to KSR reporting Tipton reporting Knight’s mom.
A small part of me wants Calipari to flame this guy....
…but the biggest part of me just wants Cal to ignore him.
But I really just want to stick this flag in the ground:
Either Bobby Knight is shamefully ignorant about the subject which he claims is so important to him, or he is a liar.
Possibly both.
Neither is very good.
RMK is living in the past, darkly...
He so wishes that there was a spark of the long lost competition between IU and UK..unfortunately what was once a storied rivalry has now evolved into simply them being our biotch..his failure to understand this concept has manifested itself in ass-speak. Sorry for the language..but emphasis was needed…stern message to follow..
While I agree that Emma from Deadspin
finally figured out that only one out of the two schools was put on probation, she didn’t offer any explanation as to who and/or why. And to make matters worse she referred to Calipari as a “..greaseball..”.
So in reality, she did little to defend him. She just said that RMK was factually incorrect. Definitely would not want her as my defense attorney.
ESPN
said that Knight was NOT at an ESPN function, therefore they ave no jurisdiction. Lame.

ESPN has other problems right now
It’s all hands on deck. Battle stations. ESPN is having an optics issue related to the Feds’ crackdown on online gambling.

ESPN's Complaint Line - 1-888-549-3776
I just made a formal complaint with ESPN. I am infuriated that ESPN would continue to carry this "Nutcase" as an announcer….or in any representative capacity for ESPN.

Lack of Integrity
“What we have here is a lack of integrity…”
YA THINK?
Bob, to find the most blatant, public display of a lack of integrity in recent memory, you only need to look in the mirror.
The real issue here is NOT the “one and done” players. The REAL issue here is a serial, public liar attacking the University of Kentucky’s integrity… again. As an alum, I’m ready to throw a chair or grab the idiot by the throat… oh wait, that’s what arrogant butt-faces do.
I was incensed by our last transgression that humiliated our program (Eddie Sutton), and I’ll be extremely angry if our program ever goes anywhere close to that again.
But I will not sit silently while some idiot wants to preach about integrity, when he obviously has none. If he cannot discern the truth any better than this, then does anyone really believe he NEVER cheated? Habitual liars don’t become that in a day. He wants to bash the NCAA in defense of Jim Tressel and then bash Calipari simply because he hates all things UK. Well, Bobby, what we have here is a bad case of situational ethics and I’m just betting that based on YOUR recent inability to recognize the truth or do necessary homework before speaking publicly, you have lacked integrity in other areas as well, maybe even running a basketball program!
Act like we've been there... 'Cause we have!
