Big Blue Nation Linkapalooza: Lazy BCS Sunday Edition
As we all recover from our celebrations of the big weekend Kentucky just experienced, including men's basketball's win over the North Carolina Tar Heels and women's basketball's win over the Louisville Cardinals, football fans are waiting on the final word as to who will be the second participant besides the LSU Tigers in the BCS Championship game.
That and more in this edition of the Linkapalooza.

Hal Mumme has an opinion of Craig James, and it isn't exactly "I love him."

Harris Poll Results Being Withheld Until After BCS Standings Released - Roll 'Bama Roll
As many thought, the Harris Poll results are being withheld until after the final BCS standings are released later tonight on ESPN. This has largely been expected considering that we are roughly two hours beyond their normal release time, but Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated confirmed the matter for good measure. Nailbiting as though it will be, we are just going to have to huddle around the TV sets later tonight on ESPN waiting to see which team's logo appears alongside Mike the Tiger.

"I [Terrence Jones] told him [Doron Lamb] at halftime that if we were going to win he would be the one to help us do it and knock down some shots for us," Jones said. "When it’s your time Coach will put the ball in your hands. I told him he’d be the one to change the game."

I don't agree, but his point is reasonable.

The controversy over the question of "Did he walk?" is ridiculous.
I watched this over and over and there are three things that happened in the last second that work against calling that a walk.
First, the ball appears to be knocked loose from behind. Could have been called a reach in foul.
Second, if you start and stop the play enough you can see that he couldn’t have taken more than one step in that time frame, and that is assuming he actually had possession of the ball which is very debatable.
Third, it appears that the ball just bounced away from him and he did not actually have possession in the final tenths of seconds left on the clock.
So, walk? No. Careless handling of the ball? Likely. Need to work on that. Mitigating circumstance. Just about everyone else on the court thought the game was over too.

If you look carefully beginning with Frame 312,
you can see what appears to be a puff of smoke from the fence behind the grassy knoll.

Ha. However I still continue to study the replay
and Teague was given a forearm shove from behind just before he lost the ball. Losers and haters will look at this and see what they want.

The takeaway is
never stop playing, never celebrate until the clock runs out and the horn sounds. Just this week we saw something similar, and the ref called it, giving the other team the ball with a chance to tie or win with only a couple of seconds left. I don’t think Teauge traveled, but it was damn close and not a smart move on his part.
This
It happened in the Memphis/Tennessee game at Maui (might be the game you’re referring to). The long and short of it is – never give the refs any reason to make a call whether it would be correct or incorrect.
1/x doesn't die, it just fades away.
Nice links.
Not the first time I’ve heard folks share these feelings about Craig James and his son. And amazingly no one, I repeat, no one (hello ESPN?) has spoken up on James’ behalf. Just desserts.
Stilled greatly disappointed that Trevathan was omitted. Inexcusable.
My end thought aligns with Garnet and Black; but for entirely different reasons. Although we use some of the same arguments. Tis an imperfect process but there simply doesn’t exist a perfect one.

Great comment. Exactly right.
James is a galactic-level douchebag.

That Hal Mumme quote is pretty good...
But a few other quotes about Leach from the original Seattle Times article are kinda hard to take:
“If you ever want to sit down with him,” says Wes Welker, the New England Patriots receiver, “take a seat. You could be there for a while.”…. Welker clicks off the hot offenses of today — Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Houston, West Virginia — and says, “They’re all his scheme.”
“If you talk to the guy, you’ll see he’s on another level intellectually,” says center Dylan Gandy of the Detroit Lions. “But he’s not pretentious or pompous in any way. He’s very approachable.”
Leach became known for gaudy graduation rates after the school endured an ugly academic scandal before his arrival. In 2008, to reinforce his emphasis on studies for one recalcitrant player, he put a desk on the 50-yard line and made him read during practice.
Sure, it’s a little scary for an administration to hire a “smartest guy in the room” type who has a law degree from Pepperdine and thinks he’s a pirate… but what hire is perfect?
Meanwhile, here in Lexington, we do have this reminder from the departing Steve Brown:
“Another one of Coach (Rich) Brooks’ guys is gone,” Brown said. “That’s how it works in this business.” The only coaches left from Brooks’ head coaching time at UK that Phillips has kept around are Sanders and linebackers coach Chuck Smith.

The fan-cam is cool
but slow as molasses on my machine. Zoom in on the black dance team member standing near the hash mark by UK’s bench. First, notice that her stockings are “flesh tone,” as Crayola used to call it. But here’s the really weird thing: whose hand is that between her and the cheerleader next to her??? It’s large, no doubt a man’s hand. But there’s no one else there! Anyone want to speculate where it might be reaching from?
I have no idea Wheat
How long did it take you to spot that?? ’-)
It is still way cool. Better slow as molasses than fuzzy as a bear, I guess. It zooms a lot better than I thought it would. I guess 5 billion pixels is good for something. ’-)
Did they photo-shop Matthew Mitchell in for their little contest??? Just a wild guess. They shouldn’t have … Probably not.
I now must forward this info to my son-in-law and see if he can figure it out. This mystery must be solved. ;-)
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
UK probably shouldn't have allowed open tagging on the pitcure
Some of them are funny, a lot are juvenile. However, Pat Forde being tagged as “Needle Dick” was worth a laugh. Also the tag on the sopt of the floor where Davis blocked the shot is good. The old dude tagged “Benjamin Button” made me laugh.

Back to UK basketball action…!
A man is nothing more than a summation of his scars!
First 7
Seeing Cousins, Wall, and Brandon Knight in the stands had me wondering who would be the starting 5 or 6 or first 7 on a UK team from Calipari’s 3 teams combined? Hmm.
There aren't enough basketballs in Lexington
to supply that team!!
