Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: John Calipari Talks Lamar
Tomorrow, the Kentucky Wildcats face off against the Lamar Cardinals in Rupp Arena. Today, John Calipari talked with the media about the matchup.
Some observations:
- The Breakfast Club has now grown to eight. Cal claimed not to know about it, says the reporter's question was the "first time he heard about it."
- Calipari had a dust-up with Jerry Tiption, but it seems more minor on the tape than it reads in Kyle Tucker's report. Naturally, Gary Parrish already made an "uh-oh" tweet about it. He apparently can't wait to stir up some mud between Cal and the media after his run-in earlier this year that drew UK's ire.
- Calipari says Kidd-Gilchrist is getting better at "Dragging the team with him." Cal said he didn't want to do it at first, because he is only a freshman.
- Said the more time that the team spends together, the more they like each other and the more they play together.

Tipton's First Name Should Be "Richard"
So his shortened name would be (rhymes with Rick). Because he is one.

Tipton should be glad that Cal doesn't go "all Steve Spurrier" on him ...
“Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier publicly refused to do his weekly press conference on Tuesday if sports columnist Ron Morris remained in the room, citing “untrue” reports that Spurrier said damage the football program." … (He claimed Spurrier poached Bruce Elliington from the basketball team)
“After outlining his grievances against Morris, Spurrier proceeded to give one-on-one interviews with television reporters outside the media room. When he returned to brief print reporters and saw Morris had not left, Spurrier turned around and left the media room for good.”
It would mean the end of the LHL
Someone who should know the business told me recently that if it wasn’t for UK sports the LHL would be out of business. If the LHL reporters couldn’t get access to UK coaches and players for an extended period of time the paper would be done like dinner.
"He still carries a lunch bucket. What's up with that?"

I'm Surprised Tipton....
has not written an article on the breakfast club from the view point that it is Cal’s way to get around the 20 hours a week practice rule. i know Cal is careful not to be on the court, but you could not convince Tipton of that….

Does the 20 hours apply when school is out??
Somebody help me out here…
If your wings don't sweep....
I don't think so.
And it does not apply to workouts by the players without coaching staff present, if I am not mistaken.
I am all for people expressing their opinions, as long as they back them up with facts.
I don't think so either...
The 20-hr rule doesn’t apply to “team activities”, ie no coaches, or “self activities”. But, I didn’t think it applied when school was out but I’ve been wrong before…
If your wings don't sweep....
I think you are right
As the team practiced twice today. And the players can do whatever they want on their own time once school starts back
But that was not really my point. I figure Tipton will take something good (the kids working on their own) and twist it ( cal pressuring everyone to join the breakfast club)

I understood what you were saying, no worries... :-)
I was trying to get a read on the 20 hour rule when school was out for Xmas break.

New Column For Tipton
Per the above press conference, Cal says that academics at UK are handled by the President’s office not the athletic office…Tipton’s column will be titled “Cal Does Not Care About Grades – Leaves It To President’s Office to Take Attendence”

I simply love the way Cal handles Tipton
Always puts him on the defensive so that he has to yelp.
Calipari Missed His Calling: Politics
But there’s still time. Consider this from Teddy Roosevelt:
"The most successful politician is he who says what the people are thinking most often in the loudest voice."
And the Rough Rider didn’t have TV, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, his own webpage, etc.
"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
And its probably better in that regard WW
Having to much exposure is almost as bad as having just a little – except for Cal of course.
A man is nothing more than a summation of his scars!
Tipton doesn't have
enough sense to realize everyone in the room was laughing at him today. He just doesn’t get that everyone else has passed him by.
It's never too early for that.
