College Football: 2011 College Bowl Thread

PrintHi everyone, its bowl season and I, for one, am excited. There are the lots of interesting games and of course lots of uninteresting games. Hopefully there are many others like me who love college bowl season and watching cross country matchups, inter-conference play and the pomp and circumstance that surrounds these games.
You can use this http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls or go to your favorite sports website to see the complete bowl schedule for the 2011-12 bowl games.
Here is a list of SEC bowl games....
Dec 30. Mississippi State v Wake Forest
Dec 31 Virginia v Auburn
Dec 31 Cincinnati v Vanderbilt
Jan 2 Michigan State v Georgia
Jan 2 Nebraska v S. Carolina
Jan 2 Ohio State v Florida
Jan 6 Kansas State v Arkansas
Jan 9 Alabama v LSU
I think there are some very intriguing match-ups for the SEC for various reasons. Particuarly OSU v UF. Normally 2 6-6 teams would not be that interesting but considering OSU's troubles with the SEC, their new coach (who is Florida's old coach) and the fact that OSU will not play in another bowl for 2 years this is a must see game in my humble opinion.
So break out your Snuggies, favorite holiday libations and enjoy some college football. Because after this its another 8 months until we get to see any.

And I do have a UK snuggie my grandson thought I would like. It is still in the box although he gave it to me 2 years ago for Christmas. Maybe I could think about trying it out for watching some football. ;-)

yeah, not a snuggie wearer here either. But, hey, as long as it’s just for comfort or to show support for your team and you don’t leave the house and go do something silly like go to the grocery store in it, well, go for it a2. And, it’s from your grandson after all, you are pretty much obligated to wear it so that could be your excuse if anyone looks at you funny.
I keep telling myself all that

I think TCU wins but sure would like to see La Tech give ’em a game…

Well i wrote a piece about it and when I hit backspace to erase a word it went back to the main page of ASOB
so i didnt re-write it. lol
Originally I thought TCU would demolish this team but La Tech is no joke. They lost to MSU in OT and crushed Ole Miss. Their lossed arent bad either ( 2 points to Southern Miss and 1 point to Houston). The Hawaii loss is pretty bad but they may have lost their Qb in that game. TCU is a 9 point favorite that opened at 10.
This could be a shootout. Think TCU will prevail though.

My prediction is that
the SEC will not have an undefeated record, but will win the Championship again…
I am thinking 8-1.

BSU Travesty
What a farce the BCS is! Boise State having to play in an anonymous bowl rather than a BCS is further proof that the bowl system has outlived its usefulness.

I totally agree that we need a playoff system....
to be fair the BCS did not keep Boise St out of a BCS bowl game. Once the top 2 teams are picked for the title, each bowl independently chooses their own participants. The BCS sets the requirements to be BCS bowl eligible but does not pick the teams that play in those other bowls.
I know it splitting hairs but I think this is a misconception that keeps getting repeated and isn’t altogether accurate. :)

Yes
The orange bowl is basically set every year for the big east and acc champions. The sugar bowl and the fiesta bowl could have chose Boise , Kansas St and/or Houston (among others). They chose other teams, which is their right whether we agree or not.

At first I didn’t like UK’s black unis. During the UT game, I thought they were really sharp. Just the right amount of blue for a good balance.

I teach the children of the Oregon coaches. I see...
the many Oregon uniforms every day on the kids as well as on T.V. However, I still prefer
the basics. Oregon uniforms (both football and basketball) change several times a season…too much.
I cant remember the stat but lately Oregon has a poor record
when the opponent has 2 weeks (or more) to prepare…I still think they will win today

Well the Sugar Bowl is tonight...Michigan v VaTech
Most of the complaints about the BCS bowls center around these 2 teams in this bowl and some others that were left out. All that is behind us now and I think this is an exciting matchup.

I think this is the season of missed FG's....
lots of teams have missed key FG’s when they could have one a game or 2 in the regular season (so many high profile examples – Boise St, Okie State, Bama etc). And this bowl season, is just the same. So many games have been decided by teams missing winning or game tying FG’s at the end of regulation and/or overtime.
LSU and particularly Alabama better be paying attention. Hate to see a team lose a national championship game because of a missed FG.
