Kentucky Basketball: Walk-on Freshman Sam Malone Has Torn ACL, Out Indefinitely

Stay connected for news and updates

John Calipari isn't skipping over the news of Sam Malone's season-ending ACL injury.

Per the UK Athletics Department, walk-on freshman guard Sam Malone tore his left ACL in Kentucky's win against Chattanooga last Saturday. Malone had played in six games, totaling 13 minutes, 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 4 turnovers.

While no official timetable has been set for Malone's injury recovery, he is almost certainly out for the year due to the severity of the injury.

Head Coach John Calipari issued the following statement on Malone's injury:

"Losing Sam Malone to an ACL injury is heartbreaking. He has been a great teammate and an even better person. You never want to hear someone is injured, but for Sam to go through his fourth knee injury is especially tough because he’s worked so hard to get where he is. He has become a valuable member of our team and quickly became a fan favorite. We look forward to Sam making a full recovery."

Best wishes to Malone on his recovery, and A Sea of Blue looks forward to seeing him again next season.
