Chattanooga Mocs 62 @ Kentucky Wildcats (3) 87: Post Game Open Thread

The Chattanooga Mocs got a good look at a lot of this from Anthony Davis tonight.

I am currently pressed by other matters, so the regular postmortem will have to wait until later. Meanwhile, please talk about the Chattanooga Mocs @ Kentucky Wildcats game in this thread.

It goes without saying that this was a mismatch, but there are a number of things, both good and troubling, that deserve some serious attention in the postmortem. Needless to say, the Terrence Jones apparent injury is tops among them, but also the resoundingly excellent play from Anthony Davis and Doron Lamb.

While we're waiting for Glenn's Postmortem, check out Eric Lindsey's post-game wrapup at CoachCal.com.

Discuss the game here. We'll have more later.

Encouraging to see Wiltjer make some 3's

and also encouraging that Kidd was 7-8 on FT’s.

UK shot too many 3’s (33).

How do you decide what's too many?

We knew Wiltjer could make them: the Water Fountain is the reigning 3-pt champion from the McD All-America game. It’s encouraging to see him shoot some 3s.

Anything over 30 is too many in my book...

Yep we knew Kyle could shoot them. However, he had made 26% of his 3’s coming into this game which is not good. So, yeah, I was encouraged to see him hit some tonight.

If you're shooting a decent percentage,

why stop? It’s the old NBA addage: keep going to it until the other team shows you they can stop it. The Mocs coach said he had no choice but to double-team aggressively in the post, leaving our guys open from deep. I think we simply took what the defense gave us.

I'll agree with that - if you are shooting a high percentage and -

you are taking good shots. We did not shoot a high percentage, however. And there were a number of those shots that I did not think were good shots. So in my opinion we settled for too many 3 point shots when we should have tried to go inside a little more. It was a good opportunity to work the offense against a packed in defense and for a lot of possessions we just wimped out and shot the first 3 we could get our hands on.

I was at the game

and the Moc’s defense was really packed in down low. It was very difficult to pass or dribble penetrate into the lane. We were commenting about the number of three’s taken but they were wide open. When we did get the ball down low there was a lot of hacking going on but the ref’s swallowed their whistles. It wasn’t a pretty game but it was never in doubt. My friend thought that the additional practices they are getting now might have taken a little bounce out of their step.

I am all for people expressing their opinions, as long as they back them up with facts.

TJ

Any word on what is going on with T. Jones?

by BarryM on Dec 17, 2011 10:47 PM EST reply actions

Any talk of resoundingly excellent play

Has to include MKG. He had 17 points, 8 rebounds (4 offensive), and 6 assists. Third top game in a row from him.

Listening to the WLAP postgame, ...

there was a report about halfway through that stated they had just been notified it was a fracture. If it was a dislocation, he will probably not miss a game, but if it is indeed a fracture, on his shooting hand, then I think there is a real problem. If Jones’ injury is enough to keep him out of the Louisville game, the potential for an upset dramatically escalates, imo.

Sometime during the game, ...

the Lexington Task Force on Rupp Arena released architectural renderings of the approved plans for the renovation. Looks cool – though questions about how it will be financed, where did the Hyatt go and why is there going to be a herd of horses roaming the grounds weren’t addressed.

A little more information

Here.
If they can get funding for this, I guess we will live in a glass house. ‘-)
I like the design and the catwalk from campus idea, and especially allowing for more fan experience ’outside’ the seats. I also like the bleachers being replaced with seats. Did I say I liked it? ’-)

I really like it alot, too.

Not that it matters because I doubt I’ll ever be attending games on a regular basis, but I do think UK should have something that is designed just a little more ‘special’ and is more functional than the current Rupp. I remember the first time I was Rupp arena. I was trying to find – and thinking that it might be right behind that big ugly warehouse, giant cardboard box looking thing. Haha, but true. So maybe not so haha.

I know alot of folks are going to be against it because it is not absolutely necessary to spend the money in a recession. But that is exactly the way place like Detroit, etc happened. There has to be a vision for the future. If you let the town get old and run-down it will eventually affect the economy of the town. I really do like the entire vision – they have put a lot of thought into this and it is not just a new arena or convention center. It will ultimately be something the city can be proud of instead of an eyesore. Plus – and alot of people don’t understand this – but it is cheaper to do it now in the recession than to do it later. Building costs are going to go way up when the economy gets kicking again. So – if you can manage it now – it makes more sense to go ahead and do it verses waiting a couple of years.

I Didn't Watch The Game

But 25 point W with Jones contributing 0 due to injury is OK result.
