Tebow is Terrible

So says CBS sports.  Denver is winning almost in spite of Tebow.  So they say.  Must not have watched the game six rows off the field in the north end zone like I did.  Tebow did exactly what it took to win.I had no doubt the Broncos were going to drive 95 yards and score a winning TD.  None.  The kid is amazing.

I have realized that praising or criticizing Tebow is like doing the same to UK basketball.  Do either and you will get a million hits.  All I know is it was a great game, the Broncos are 4-1 since he took over, they are fun to watch, the whole team is playing better  and my mother, a first cousin, a first cousin once removed, a second cousin (or is she a third cousin) and who knows how many other relatives of various sorts were at home in the JP tonight wearing their #15 Bronco jerseys cheering for Tim. I suspect the Broncos are the most popular pro team in the southeast.    The kid is amazing.

I'm happy for Tebow ....

Lucky for him Elway and Fox have created an offense that he can operate in. It’s obviously not the traditional pro style offense but they are having success with it … and their job is to win ball games … looking forward Tebow has a lot to learn if he wants to stay in the league. But for right now he is winning and proving his detractors wrong -

Tebow is a winner in every way.

How anyone can hate that guy is simply beyond me. He is among the most humble, and most athletically gifted people I have ever seen.

If I were young enough to have a role model in sports, it would be Tim Tebow.

one word.....Religion

I know that this is a taboo subject for us here at ASOB, so you woll have to forgive my rant Glenn.

The man is being persecuted because of his faith in God. No more, no less. They mock him and scoff him because he lives a life they either choose not to live, or know nothing about.

I apologize to everyone, but it’s the truth. I make no criticism of anyone for their religion, even if I do not agree with it. Nor do I poke fun at anyone’s lack of belief, because my personal belief is that is a subject between that person and the Almighty on high. But to try and destroy this kid in the pubic’s eye because he has a strong faith to me is deplorable.

addendum:

I add no credence to the idea that Tebow does not have the skills. That is an excuse for those choosing to mock him. His skill set may be unconventional, but it is also unquestionable.

The young man knows how to win. Heaven knows he made it painfully obvious to us over and over again.

I don't think it's religion...

I just think it’s because he’s not a cookie cutter quarterback, he’s different. Guys have come into the league with a vaguely similar set of skills and failed. Everyone wants to say he can’t do his job, and no one wants to be wrong now that he’s winning games. It’s amazing what the human brain can overlook when it wants to. Him being so overtly religious just gives people something else to latch onto.

Overt religiousity

comes across as arrogance and that doesn’t set well with many. Play the game and keep religion for the church. The assumption that God chooses sides in a game is very demeaning for the image of God.

Thanks Wineman for finally saying what I thought should be stated

If Tebow was a Muslim and had the same overt religious values as he currently holds I wonder how the sports community would view him…?

A man is nothing more than a summation of his scars!

I think much of it is over exposure in media

Winning the Heisman so young, many fans at rival schools, get sick of hear all about him. His religious views may have been part of it for some people, but I think the constant over exposure for almost any athlete will create some haters. I would compare it to the way many UK fans couldn’t stand Tyler Hansbrough, but football is bigger in the south so it was even on a larger scale.

Religion Cuts Both Ways

I think there are some who want Tebow to be good because of his religion. While they wouldn’t articulate this way, it seems that some find validation for their faith in the success of famous people.

NB – I’m not offering a criticism of people who cheer for or against Tebow because of religion. People can have any reason they want in making their sports allegiances. I am simply offering an observation that I have noted in the cultural milieu in which I live.

by GoLightning on Nov 18, 2011 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

I have to agree..

His faith is part of it. I also think that he isn’t a cookie cutter quarterback like cat stevie mentioned and the media has hayped him up or down so much that people get tired of hearing about him. People are waiting for him to fail so that can say I told you so. And that is pathetic. Every professional sports star should take notes on how Tim Tebow handles himself. I bet my life that you don’t hear about Tebow in a strip club making it rain and than pulling a gun on people. I bet you don’t hear about Tebow sexually assualting a young women in a night club. I bet you don’t hear about Tebow shooting himself in the leg!!! But I bet you do hear about Tebow winning the game and then giving all the credit to God and his teammates.

All that aside, I believe he is the only quarterback since John Elway left to have a winning record at Denver. He won in highschool and college. And now he is winning in the pros. What more can you ask for? Haters are going to hate, and Tebow is going to win.

I'd be careful about betting

my life that people who wear religion openly are above falling down behind the scenes. It irritates me to see people use sports as a forum to promote their religion. If religion were a factor in games, Notre Dame would never lose.

Agree to all of the above!

But IF they make the playoffs, that team isn’t getting very far. That gameplan may work against Miami, Oakland, KC, and NYJ, but it’s not going to work against elite teams, as we were able to see when the Broncos were shellacked by Detroit a few weeks ago. But, hey, you’re obviously a Denver fan, and it’s always more fun to be a fan when your team is winning.

Now I’m sure Tim Tebow will read my playoff rant from above, use it as a motivational tool, and get to the Super Bowl!

by mrmondaynite on Nov 18, 2011 8:22 AM EST reply actions

LOL Boy, Broncos + Super Bowl would sure be a shocker!

We were having a conversation about this at work… If you set the playbook up for Tebow and let him run the same style of offense that he did at UF, he’s gonna win alot of ball games.

And here’s why: most NFL defenses aren’t designed to stop the option! Denver has gone to a zone blocking scheme on the O-line and Tebow is making the option read as he goes down the line, which has resulted in their recent success. If you really build you playbook around his skill-set, he’s gonna be hard to beat.

Look at it from the Defensive perspective. Are you going to draft personnel and set up your D for the one team in the league that is running a spread option?? Absolutely not! You’ll set things up to play against everyone else and then just plan on doing the best you can for that one game of the season. A similar comparison is in the ACC, do you think they recruit kids and set up their D just to play Ga Tech?? Probably not…

That fact alone is why, if Denver will embrace Tebow’s skill-set, I think they can be very successful running the spread… Can they win the Super Bowl like that?? Who knows, but it makes for a good debate! :-)

I am openly rooting for Tebow to continue winning...

because he seems to be a genuinely nice guy who is out there defying the odds while taking a ton of criticism.

Just like our own Randall Cobb once defined the position that he plays as simply “football player”, Tebow is the same kind of guy. He is a competitor and winner.

.

"Man I don't want to talk about guys (Moss) who left us, you know. Why would I you know. We talk about Randall probably a little too much. He left us also."

This is a great site

Where else can something that is so off topic to the general interest get such perceptive comments? Eagle TDL you have it exactly right and take it a step further. Most DB’s don’t want to tackle Tebow because they aren’t built for that. One of the Jet DB’s essentially laid out and down to miss a tackle on that last drive.

Who cares if they won’t get very far in the playoffs or can’t beat an elite team? Five weeks ago we couldn’t beat Miami until TT entered the game. You hear that argument a lot around Denver and who cares? Just to have a team that plays really really hard is enough.
Guys say, well the point of pro sports is to win championships. Hogwash. The point is to make money and provide entertainment. Right now the Broncos are no longer Donkeys and they are entertaining.

I hear the over under on the Cats against PSU is 60 points. I thinking about the over.

I think, in the end...

we’re all sports junkies! :-) And a great point about tackling TT, I don’t know that I’d be down that! LOL

Reminds me of Tebow’s Jr or Sr year… Can’t remember where Game Day was at that time, but they did a remote interview with him. Lee Corso said something along the lines of “Hey, we hear you’re going to be a #1 pick” and TT gracefully said something about the most important thing was for the “team to get a win”. Corso then says, “No, no, you didn’t let me finish… You’re a #1 pick as a Linebacker!” Both parties on the end of the interview just busted up laughing…

Good kid, wish him the best!

Tebow is loved in Florida

Don’t hate me because I like Louisville Football, not here to talk crap (fan of both teams)! Anyways I went to the Dolphins/Broncos game here in Miami when he got his first start and lets just say there were more Tebow fans than Dolphins fans in attendance. Of course it didnt help that the Dolphins, besides their two game win streak, aren’t that good. They love that guy down here but I am a Tebow believer, the guy finds ways to pull off a W.

dont sweat the UL part....we are not all psychos, or at least not to the extent some believe.....;-)

Tebow is simply a great football player. His coach believes it, anyone who has ever played against him believes it, and anyone that has ever watched him play closely believes it.

Anyone who doesnt is either completely ignoring what they see, or not seeing what is right in front of their faces.

I have no problem with Tebow...

From all accounts the kid is a class act that does more to help underprivileged kids than most of us put together. You never hear of off the field problems. There is a big segment of society that do not like certain athletes because of “all the coverage” they get (ala LeBron, Vick, Favre etc.). Some say it is unwarranted and he gets thrown in their faces far too much. Plus people do not like to be wrong. So when someone sits around the water cooler and tells everyone he knows that Tebow will never ever be a pro QB, they are committed to rooting against him because they do not want to be wrong. It is human nature as silly as it sounds.

I have said this a million times but sports fans are hypocrites (me included). If this guy were on “their” team or played for “their” college, they would love the guy.

Glorification of QB

This isn’t just a Tebow issue, but where is the talk about Denver’s defense? The deffense scored as many touchdowns as the offense. they gave up just 13 points, and 3 of that was a field goal where the Jets started in FG range.

I think Tebow would agree that he didn’t win alone. Then again, I’m sure he will get most of the blame if Denver loses the game, so he might as well enjoy it now.
