We're all curious about the finances behind the NCAA- how much they make, where it comes from, where it all goes? Turns out the NCAA is pretty clueless and left that (previously guarded) info out on their servers for all to see:
http://deadspin.com/5860390/the-ncaa-accidentally-leaked-five-years-of-financial-statements-online
I haven't read all of the actual documents, but according to the Deadspin summary, the NCAA " left $26 million for the NCAA's "management and general," and another $24 million in profit. "
A few other random facts I've found: The NCAA has over $350 million in investments. The Eligibility Center generated $8.7 million in revenue in fiscal year 2008.
I'm looking forward to digging through here and seeing how well it pays to be the bastions of amateurism....
