Tim Tebow in Denver Update

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7220100

I'm not a sports talk show guy...too much talk rarely any thoughtfullness, but in the link above Skip has it right.  TT will be a winner in the NFL (like any SEC football fan ever doubted that) but it may not be in Denver.  Fox and Elway just can't believe what this guy (TT) and his fans are forcing them to do.  First they won't play him.  Then when they play him they don't modify the offense.  Then they begin to modify the offense and the Broncos for the first time in several years are interesting and more importantly they beat bad teams. On the road.  In hostile enviornments.  In places where Denver rarely wins even when Denver is good (and I'm talking to you John Elway).

Lee Corso years ago said, "If I ever were a pro coach I would run the option in the red zone.  It will work.  We would score every time.

I always thought Lee right about that.  Now, because of who he is and what he represents TT is forcing the issue and we are going to find out if Lee was right and if a college spread hurry up with a running QB  can succeed in the NFL and in Denver.

So far it has worked on the field and off as TT becomes the talk of the NFL.  When the Broncos beat the Jets Thursday night heads will explode: How can a guy who can't pass, was a virgin until he married, always puts his Lord and Savior first and is a dog gone evangelical Christian lead a team to victory over Ryan's NEW YORK JETS.  I suspect the story line will be : Denver must be pretty good, too bad they don't have a real QB.

Didn't care much for Tebow at Fla ... but the guy has taken so much negative BS, just ask Colin Cowherd .. he is the Tebow "expert" ... I'm startigng to pull for him

Every time Tebow has a good outing and proves him (and a bunch others) wrong – I just love it … sure he has a slow release, can barely outrun most land turtles, and throws a wounded duck … but the guy’s a winner at the end of the day …. :)

I think he can outrun a land turtle...considering

he’s done a pretty good job outrunning NFL defenders.

Check these stats: http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/13200/tim-tebow

In 16 career games (not all of them starts, obviously), he has a 6.0 average per carry and 8 TDs.

It will work.

And one thing these guys are missing is that it can work without retooling the personnel. Tebow is special, an athletic freak who is as durable as a piece of iron. These NFL linebackers, as big and fast as they are, are not any bigger and faster than Tebow. And when Tebow hits you, you stay hit.

Its much easier for a QB to be hurt in the pocket than on the run, especially when he is not running into bigger guys, and Tebow just isn’t for the most part.

Every team has a guy who they can’t afford to be injured. This is no different. I think the spread option can and will work, but it takes a very special QB to run it in the pros. Tebow is that guy.

I was hoping someone would make that type of point...

The majority of people in any industry are not innovative. They follow others.

The NFL is so pass happy that it is possible that a complete commitment to really old style football will be exceptionally effective because teams 1) haven’t seen it, 2) are not built to defend it, 3) aren’t conditioned to playing it 4) it upsets the “rules” of the game.

It is going to be interesting.

Give me Tebow and Randall Cobb, and I will beat you...

I might not the first time, but I will find a way by the second….

Tebow and Cobb

I have had that same thought several times this year…love the idea of having them both on the field. Both great runners. Both decent passers. Both football players. Both winners and I really think that matters.

In all areas of life business, school, sport, church, certain people are winners and leaders and they inspire others to do better just by being there. As he did in the video, Chris Carter can deny that all he wants, but it is real and it matters a great deal.

Oh btw going to the Broncos game Thursday….I will be the one in section 111 wearing Kentucky blue.
