No, no rapping here, although most of what we have read in the past week about all of this nonsense could make a decent Country and Western song. I am speaking of the KSR/H-L, KSR/Marc Maggard, KSR/The World battle that seems to be raging on. And the really silly part is, there really isn't any battle at all. Just a lot of hot air surrounded by accusations, innuendo, rumors and bravado.
As a precursor to this I will say that I read Kentucky Sports Radio. I read True Blue Kentucky. I read here at A Sea Of Blue, I read almost every blog out there that writes pertinent information about the Cats. So I can say this with complete frankness and a sense of pride. Some of these guys are complete fools. Most of us understand what we are doing here. We are blogging. We are commenting. We are wishing, hoping, complaining, fussing, whining, laughing, celebrating and prognosticating ourselves all over the place. The reason for that is that we are using the world's largest op-ed piece to tell everyone how we feel about a certain subject and it's effect on our lives. But lest we kid ourselves too much, let me say this. We are not journalists. At least not most of us. Now there are professional journalists out here that have columns ( blogs), who simply use this media outlet to reach the masses they do not have an audience with anywhere else. How else could a Cats fan in another part of the world read the exploits of the goings on in Lexington? those folks are affiliated with major networks, radio stations, TV programs, etc. We know that because our own Glenn Logan and Ken Howlett have both been interviewed by these kinds of folks in the last couple months. But ask wither of those guys if they are journalists, and they will tell you no. I now write articles for Wildcat Blue Nation, but I am no journalist. I am an opinion offerer. And every now and then I get to talk to someone who really knows something about what is going on in the world and get their take on it. Yes, I have interviewed people, yes I have talked to Kentucky players about what goes on in Lexington. But I don't earn a living from it. I am not out there looking for the "scoop" as it used to be called. I am just a guy who loves his Cats and loves the fact that I have found a group of people that I can discuss their efforts with on a regular basis.
But we have some people out there who have developed this inflated sense of self, because they have a following, or they charge a fee for their info, or they get their exclusives straight from the guy who knows someone who is in the know. As you get older in life you develop acquaintances with people. Those people are usually a direct result of the interests you have in life and the places you go, or have been. some people have come to think that because they are in a position to know a little more than others, that they can turn that into something else. They make claims about what they know, or who they know, about how often they are right about knowing something before anyone else. It is like a bunch of 7 yr olds out there yelling " my dad can beat up your dad" at each other. On any given day, the blogs you read, are recycling information from another blog that carried the same info earlier that day or the night before. then when someone starts getting too big for the sandbox we get nasty letters, we get outlandish claims of lawsuits, and we all get in an uproar about who is gonna do what to whom. Spare me the dramatics everyone. This is simply a distraction from the world.
Now there may come a time when the internet replaces every other media outlet on the planet, I don't know. My TV is already more of an internet device than a TV, so this may indeed become true. But we are a long ways away from the internet taking over. Right now, it is the fastest way to send information to millions. The problem is that ANYONE can send that information, right or wrong. So here is a short answer to all of these folks who seem to be in such an uproar; Get over it. Play nice, don't insult each other and follow the rules. Quit acting like someone stole your lunch and gave it to the rest of the class. And start treating each other with some respect. Acting like 19 yr olds on overdoses of testosterone will only perpetuate the belief that you don't belong where you are. There are a lot of background issues with some of the guys that run the websites that no one who has even a little bit of decency do not discuss, simply because it is beneath them. I applaud those folks for having the maturity to stay out of it. This post is going to anger some because it hits at the heart of what a lot of us do, which is work to improve the sites and improve the content. those are admirable things to do. But if you have to get into a urinating for distance contest with the world to make your point, then maybe that point just doesn't need to be made. C'mon folks, this isn't rocket science it's just blogging. And Cal doesn't give two hoots about what we say or do, because he will be able to talk to the real guys if he wants to make a point, or an announcement.
And to the true professionals out there who really do this for a living, just let me say this. You are the people in the drivers seat right now. But this may not always be the case. Remember that everything changes, and at some point, as Glenn pointed out the other day, "It is better to be thought of as a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt". Take it easy, because no one is going to steal your popcorn. Act like the professionals you are purported to be.
