Kentucky in the NBA: PPat makes hay in Summer League Debut
As if there were any doubt, Patrick Patterson was "money" in his NBA Debut today. I just watched the tivo of the game (Comcast in Memphis carries the NBA channel) and was so proud. I have tried to find an article to link but cannot. The following is from memory.
I believe he went 8/9 from the field and had 2 rebounds in around 14 or 15 minutes. He did not start but given each quarter was 10 minutes, he got some good time.
His first basket was on a pick and roll which he finished on a dunk. I believe his second goal was around a 15 footer and his 3rd goal was a 3 pt shot. He made 2 three pointers in the game. He also faced up his defender and made a short jumper and had a couple of good moves to the basket- one with his left hand, I believe. All in all, it was impressive.
He seemed a step slow on defense but I would imagine the game gets much faster at the next level and I am sure he will make the adjustment over time. He was constantly setting picks and screens for his team.
One thought I had as I watched was it was clear staying 3 years allowed him to hit the ground running (ie, he has an outside shot). Although I have been a defender of Orton going this year, after watching PPat tonight, I may have to change my tune.

Good for you, memphis.
I have been following the NBA Summer League games sporadically up until this point and the only games so far have been the Orlando games (that meaning mainly Eastern Conference NBA teams and very few teams, at that) and the only one of our boys that has been playing thus far has been Orton.
Everything that I have read indicates that he didn’t fare very well, (ejected in his first game and very poor performances in that and the games that followed, stat-wise) and well, to be honest, the Las Vegas (mainly Western Conference NBA) Summer League teams and our players (Patterson, Cousins) who are now playing for those teams are actually who/what I’m most excited to hear about.
Good update on PPat, memphis, and I since I don’t have access to the NBA channel (but I am seriously thinking about adding it this fall) I have been counting on SB Nation’s NBA Draft/D-League/NBA Summer League blog for updates and those of you that do have access to the channel.
Also, as an aside, my sister-in-law just so happens to live in downtown Houston and if the opportunity should arise I would dearly love to see our Patrick play in an NBA uniform in person. (I’m working on getting some tickets to a game and airline tickets to Houston at present, actually : ))
thanks BSC...
and you inspired me to go to the Houston Rockets official site: http://www.nba.com/rockets/index_main.html
When i clicked to it, an article entitled “The Real Deal” popped up on PPat’s first game - of course we already knew he was the real deal :)

more from the rockets site...

is the article and contains the following “nugget” toward the end:
Today was about the start of fulfilled promise and potential, and about affirmation for the Rockets’ basketball operations department which had Patterson ranked as the 6th best prospect on their board heading into this year’s draft.

I don't have the NBA channel but
PPat is not surprising me. I felt he would continue to work hard at the next level. I think Houston (fans too) will be pleased. Thanks for the update memphis.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
PPat does GOOD!
Another article about PPat’s Summer League game from the Houston Chron online newspaper, the comments from the readers seem mostly positive about PPat.

Missed His First Basket
So muchas gracias for the video link. Did get to see most of his later minutes and was positively surprised at how comfortable he appeared. No doubt the extra couple of years maturity helped.

Only thing that changed for Patrick was the color of his uniform.
Looked like he was still kicking butt and taking names to me.

PPat = The Anti-LeBron.
Great for Patrick. Another example how a solid family structure plays into the development of a boy growing up to be a man. God bless the fathers of this world.
