25 Most Hated Teams in Sports History
According to SI.
No, UK didn’t make this list (which actually could be considered kind of sad considering that most on the list are there because of their success), but it is fun to take a quick glance and see who, in the world of sports, did make the list.
It should come as no surprise that Miami football made the list. Twice. Also, making the list at #12? Yes, that’s right, the 1991-1992 Duke Blue Devils. Could have been higher as far as I’m concerned, but whatever, they made the list, which is good and true, as they are definitely hated.
Anyone on the list make you scratch your head? Anyone who you think should have made the list that didn’t? Feel free to discuss.

I'd go with the 88 and 89 Pistons
With Bill Lambeer, Isiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman, what was there to like with those thugs (as a Bulls fan I ultimately learned to appreciate Rodman). No UK teams, but the Duke and Georgetown teams that made the list definitely did break Kentucky fans hearts or at least mine.
1900 to 2010 Duke

1900-2010. Ha ha ha. That’s funny. And accurate.
And, even though it’s pretty random, when I read that, for some reason I’m automatically reminded of that shirt slogan/general saying that goes something like – "Duke University. Keeping ugly girls out of UK since 1900".
The saying is usually used for rivals and such (replace Duke with Louisville, for instance) and the year is usually the year the school was founded, but you get the idea. I think it’s incredibly hilarious. I laugh every time I see that shirt or saying.
Duke is the only school in America where you can leave less intelligent than when you arrived,
and STILL GET A DEGREE.
I AM THE CAT......The Cat In The Hat!!!
Maybe.
But I could sacrifice a little looks for Daddy’s money.

With enough money

Rec'd that one coop
It needed to be green. :-)
They should have at least made the top 10, IMO.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
'78 Yankees
I’m a big Reds fan, but the ’78 Yanks have always been one of my favorite sports teams. Guidry, Hunter, Jackson, Munson (I really liked him), Rivers, Piniella, Nettles, Dent, and best of all Billy Martin. What a great team; colorful, and such a fun group to watch.
Miami being at the top doesn’t surprise me. They were definitely “hateable.”
Never really cared for the Pistons, except for I. Thomas (now though, I think he’s a nut).
A little surprised no Indiana U. basketball teams made the list.
I loved the Raiders and John Madden. At one time I even liked Al Davis (now though, I think he’s a nut).
Never liked the Cowboys and Steelers. Both those teams qualify as my most disliked pro teams, along with the vile Dodgers and Lasorda.
Hockey? I know Wayne Gretzky … gotta be worth something.
I hated, I mean hated the Spurrier Florida teams!!
Anything orange I have a healthy dislike for, but it is hard to dislike Peyton Manning.
Never cared for the Lakers, but of course I love Pat Riley. I was a Boston fan because of Bird. Modern day Lakers; no real hate, but I don’t pull for them.
I was only 7-years old when the Soviets pilfered the Gold, but I’ve seen video. They are one of the reasons I wanted Reagan to nuke ’em.
Surprisingly, I’ve never been a big-time Duke hater, although I despise Laettner. North Carolina was/is the recipient of most of my hatred. I was pulling for Butler though, in a big way. I did not want Duke to win another title.
Dale Brown’s late-’70’s and early ’80’s LSU teams: D. Scales, R. Macklin … hated them with a passion. I’ve only recently gotten over my extreme dislike for anything associated with LSU basketball. Same for Notre Dame and Kelly Tripuka and Orlando Woolridge during the same time period.
And of course the ‘86 UofL team (that was UK’s championship they stole) or any Louisville team Dwayne Morton played on. Hated ’em.
Stole?
How so?
I ‘hate’ any team that has:
1. Tom Brady at QB.
2. Weis or Carroll or Saban or Billy Martin or Switzer or J. Johnson or Lasorda as coach.
3. Anyone with A-Rod at 3rd…okay any team with New York on its jersey.
4. Did I mention the New York teams?

"When the people fear their government, you have tyranny. When the government fears the people, you have liberty." — Thomas Jefferson
for me
1980…… doctors of dunk…to this day, I still despise that team
Don't hate those who changed a sport.
That team pioneered how basketball is played. Five players that handled the ball. A center that played the point on a full court press. And last but not least…invented the high-five.
Darrell Griffith was a god and remains an ambassador of the school.

Good one.
You pulled up the roster on the internet. Your indepth analysis is a little short of elementary.
Oh, and I doubt they watched them on TV, because back in those days the NBA Finals were taped delayed and replayed at 11:30 at night.
Thanks for playing, though.

Pretty much any of the Hurricanes teams from the '90s
Would fit nicely there. But that would only take up 10 of the top 25.

Have you all read the tweets/write-ups from Matt Jones on the Sypher trial? You;d think you were reading a porn script.
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, is just a freight train coming your way...
Yep, pretty racy
My 11 year old usually reads over my shoulder when I’m checking out the Wildcat blog sites. I quickly learned not to visit KSR during The Trial. ;-)
Yep, the trial is giving Pitino 15 seconds of fame
…..oh wait…..

Other than last year...
It’s hard to think of a specific UK team that you could hate. UK is a general dislike – lean to – hate generater for most of the country but not so much specific to any one team or player. We have had cheaters, point shavers and allot of plain old winners (which can generate hate) but really I could see why none made the list. Rupp could do it but still can’t pin it to one team.
I hate Richie’s porn stache does that count. How about those uniforms from Ricky’s days. Some of those I hate. But the cat scratch shorts look killer on vintage Playstation when Delk could hit from anywhere. Don’t hate those.
Changing how you think will change what you think.
I don't know if he means the denims
… those I halfway liked.
It was the tiger stripe shorts that were maybe (….. maybe….) a “good idea at the time”.
Surely UK basketball is storied enough to just have a classic uniform and leave it alone.
In hindsight, the 90’s under Pitino featured some weird things running down the legs of the uniforms…. stripes, zig zags ….
.

yep those
I only like that they are on playstation with delk draining 3’s.
Denim were odd and took the fire out of the blue.
But those scratch shorts SUCKED!
Might look better as a table cloth in an italian place.

On behalf of all Utah fans...
The 1996-1998 Kentucky Basketball teams are the most hated teams of all time.

And we think so highly of you guys :)
Just kidding. Actually, I’m a big Rick Majerus fan, and I hated that he kept running into the UK buzz saw practically every year during the ’90’s.
As good as the ‘98 UK team was, I was really nervous about the Utah game. I knew Majerus would have his guys meticulously prepared … he’s as good at breaking down an opponent’s weaknesses as anyone in the business.
Good luck this season, and thanks for stopping by.
Yeah, good old Majarus was bigger than life
That was back when Utah was still a Basketball school. Hopefully we can get back to those days.
I’m just saying we could win three national championships in a row and something would feel missing unless we beat Kentucky along the way to do it.

I think ...
… that kind of mirrors how UK fans feel about the Duke Blue Devils. Most of that loathing is based on a single game, though.
