UK Football: Joker Phillips Talks the Talk
In my final post for the vacationing Paul Jordan, owner of the excellent Wildcat Blue Blog, I break-down a few SEC Media Day quotes from Joker Phillips, given in the question and answer session on Wednesday. To read the piece, go here.

Nice piece.
Ken, when do you sleep? Posted at 3:38am CDT?
Kentucky football is not most well covered sport in the world (major understatement!) but from what I’ve been able to glean from across the world wide web, we appear to be in much better shape than I feared at the end of last season. At least, offensively we have a stable of backs, three viable quarterbacks, a plethora of receivers and large offensive line with game experience.
Defensively? That’s going to take some more time to get going this year. It looks like the secondary might be making a lot of tackles until the front firms up but at nearly every position the depth chart has at least two players that have game experience. This is a far cry from years past where our lack of depth had us starting many players with virtually no game experience. Defensive speed will be out salvation and it looks like Phillips is gearing the defense to attack earlier after the snap rather than rotating through reads before attacking. Overall, probably a simpler defense to take advantage of the speed of the defensive players. We’re somewhat small on the edges but speed can make up for that.
Thanks hoboat
LOL, not sleeping as much this week as I normally do.
You hit the nail on the head with your take on UK’s defensive speed. While it’s true that UK lost some very talented players on D, they do possess some serious speed, which of course can make up for mistakes.
Joker may not get all of the laughs that Brooks got over the years,
but he really seems to be another slam dunk hire for Barnhart. If we can win 7-8 games a year regularly with him, and throw in the occasional 9 win season, they will have him bronzed and put out in front of Commonwealth Stadium. He says the right things, he does the right things. If he can win more than he loses, he will be the second coming for foorball here in Kentucky.
I AM THE CAT......The Cat In The Hat!!!
I love Ky football
but I’m still in the wait and see mode, I havent gotten the loses Ken mentioned last year……good write up Ken
