Dana O'Neil, perhaps my favorite sportswriter — definitely in the top 5 —, goes off the record with 20 D1 basketball coaches at the Peach Jam and gets great — perhaps honest — insight into the state of college basketball. Here are just a few of the revelations:
Rather unanimous that they hate summer recruiting and for various reasons.
Endless choices of least favorite NCAA rule: April recruiting, phone rules, bump rule.
Most are distrustful of peers.
Surprisingly most don't think cheating is pervasive.
Big 10(11) is cleanest scholarship conference, SEC dirtiest.
Agents/runners #1 problem.
Rather cynical (surely not) regarding NCAA.
You'll enjoy all the comments I think.
