Well, I have to confess, that looks better than I believed it would.

And makes the last semester’s gpa appear to be more of an abnormality than most folks thought as well. Maybe we really did just have a “glitch”. Either way, we are well ahead of the curve for Academic Progress.

i was not surprised...

the numbers include tubby’s last two years and BCG’s two years. you can say what you want about the on court performance but both coaches appeared to be on top of the academic side of things.

unfortunately, these numbers do not include the most recent year. not sure how the gpa figures in, but orton leaving without completing class will have an impact. however, from what i have read, it looks like if we can get back on track this year, we may have enough room to avoid any issues.

GPA Doesn't Matter

If the player is eligible, UK get 2 points each semester (unless he transfers, then just 1).

I just read in today's USA today

That there are schools being punished for a 925 APR.

Just being sarcastic ABC-

It’s just that I have never known of any Tennessee fans at work, who were concerned about UT football players grades. We or I should say I, want the best of the best players, whether they are great students or not. Yes, I would love to have every kid be a model student/athlete, aka Patrick Patterson, but people like him are rare…

Gillispie Update And Insight
Gillispie was not shy discussing the huge problem he brought upon himself in August 2009—he was guilty of DUI in Kentucky. "I made a mistake; it was a real bad decision. I can’t act like it didn’t happen. I should have known better. I have to deal with it and move on."

More here.

Not sure,

but people are talking about Dayton’s Brian Gregory as the next “mid-major” coach to jump into a power conference program (i.e. Tom Crean, Anthony Grant, Dana Altman, Darrin Horn, etc.).

Pet peeve - don't take it wrong way. Call it constructive criticism.

Misuse of “i.e.” and “e.g.” is one of the two most common writing mistakes I see.
i.e. = “that is”
e.g. = “for example”

Your parenthetical should be an “e.g.” – not an “i.e.”

When an associate hands me a brief with these misused and expects me to sign it, I give them heck, too.

FWIW, the other very common writing mistake that drives me nuts is when people use “myself” when they should use “me.” Myself is reflexive, i.e., only I can do something to “myself.” OTOH, others can do something to “me” but not to “myself.” E.g., “If you have any questions, please give myself a call.” This is incorrect; you can give “me” a call. Only I can give “myself” a call.

(Note how I used examplse of both “i.e.” and “e.g.” when discussing the other pet peeve. :)

I hear sports announces do the "myself" thing all the time.

“Calipari had Kenny Walker, Joe Hall and myself over for dinner the other night blah blah blah.” Auggghhh. You are paid to talk for a living.

Sorry about that. Been editing a lot of briefs lately.

It kind of puts the finishing touches on the errors of the conspiracy theories surrounding Wall

Remember? Nike steered him to UK. He would sign with William Wesley as an agent and use LeBron’s marketing firm.

Now he has an agent not named WWW.

He is using a marketing group unaffiliated with his majesty.

He is now signed with Reebok.

So much for conspiracies. Not that it will matter the next time something like this comes up.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Speaking of staying in school

I ran across this tidbit while looking at Ohio State football site Bucknuts.com. I can’t vouch for the accuracy. Splicing Gene…From a Gene Smith speech of a little more than a week ago in a "private" conclave, he was asked if the Buckeyes would do more neutral site games like the Toledo game last year held in Cleveland. Smith said he recently got together with Dallas Cowboy honcho Jerry Jones and that Jones offered "a lot of money" to play a high-profile game in Cowboys Stadium. Smith said he considered it but "decided to pass". Never did say who we were supposed to play there (maybe SMU, who traditionally "decides to pass" on most downs?)
As interesting – and on an unrelated topic – someone from the crowd then assailed Smith about the “one and done” rule for prospective NBA-caliber college hoopsters. He said that he really had no idea how big of a problem it was going to be when it was instituted. He said that he felt that OSU and UCLA have been hurt the most by it, but that Matta has done such an incredible job of recruiting that OSU stayed competitive, regardless. Smith also said that he recently met with David Stern and Stern told him that in the last collective bargaining agreement, the players were fine with a two-year rule, but, the agents somehow got it pushed down to one. He said that he had no idea – up to that point – that the agents had that kind of power. But, Stern told him that in the next agreement he’s going to push for three years just so that he can settle for two years. Two years, Bucknuttters, changes everything about the dynamic of this sodden situation…

I to expect some big changes in next NBA contract. That is the reason a lot of people expect a lockout. Both sides will fight to the end. Good Afternoon to you!

Hopefully they will institute the rule

Only the NBA can solve that problem. It has led to declining play; as well as not renewing my Pacers tickets. It’s bad enough to watch grown men stand around; it’s even worse when the guy standing around isn’t even a polished COLLEGE player.

Question. If the Big 12 falls apart...

and Kansas moves to the Mountain West, let’s say, will that hurt their recruiting at all in basketball?

That's why Kansas, Louisville, and Cincinnatti

Will form a new conference USA (it could be called something else)along with Memphis, and others, to have a dominant basketball conference.

As I mentioned earlier..

..someplace else, I’ve kind of been out of the loop lately, so if this has already been discussed at length, forgive the redundancy here, but are all these conference changes supposed to take effect for this upcoming season?

Like, will the Pac-10 be scheduling in conference games with like 20 schools and the Big 10 conference games will now include Nebraska playing Michigan, Minnesota, etc. for the 2010-2011 sports season?

by BigSkyCat on Jun 10, 2010 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions

2012 is the most likely start date

Or even later, this is just the begining. We are on the verge of the largest shift in college sports maybe of all time. The Pac-16 looks like a reality now, and that means the Big 10 and SEC are going to expand, which means the ACC is going to raid the Big East again.

And then maybe a new conference with Kansas, Louisville, Cincinnati, and the leftovers…

This is huge.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, is just a freight train coming your way...

by btcoop71 on Jun 10, 2010 12:04 PM EDT up reply actions

thanks.

Among many many other things, what a geographical nightmare. Texas traveling to Washington to play, and vice-versa? More travel expense, more missed school, I’m sure the list is endless. Yikes.

I used to know what schools were in each conference based on where they were located geographically; looks like I’ll have to throw that out the window and learn which schools are where all over again.

Folks, we are going

to have some huge conferences. I see the SEC, Big Televen Someteen, PAC10 and ACC all going to 16 teams. The money rush will be incredible the next couple of weeks as the dominoes continue to fall.

The TV networks are probably thinking “We’ve created a monster” while the bowl committees will simply go into shock trying to figure out the bowl affiliations. Between those above plus the Big East, 80 of the FBS schools will belong to just 5 conferences. There will be a lot of schools left out of the money grab that will never recover, particularly the Big 12 schools that don’t get invited to the party.

This is going to get ugly. I just hope the SEC can grab the likes of Texas and Georgia Tech. Notre Dame would be nice but it would be nice to keep some semblance of the SE in SEC.
