The Big Blue Daily Mail -- Chuck Hayes Edition
Chuck Hayes is about to get a new teammate -- Patrick Patterson. That means my two favorite players who wore the Blue and White of the last 20 years will be playing together. The Houston Rockets have just become my new favorite NBA team.
But Chuck hasn't lost what makes him tick, and I think he and Patrick Patterson will be an incredible mix on the floor.

How Much Compliance Is Enough? | The Bylaw Blog
The absolute minimum number of full-time compliance officers a Division I athletic department should have is two. That probably doesn’t sit well with many smaller athletic departments, considering having one full-time compliance officer at all Division I athletic departments is a relatively recent development.
Some very interesting reading here. I wonder how many full-time compliance officers UK has? Hopefully, much more than one.

Kevin Pelton notes the NBA Draft's big winners, but they are in reverse order from what most people have said.

Why not? If they can raise their game to that level, I say they should look into it.
If they do, this could be a very good year for Kentucky basketball.

Rush The Court " Blog Archive " Calipari: Draft Night = Championship? Is This What It’s Come To?
When asked again whether a national title or a night like last evening was better, he similarly dodged the question by saying that you need the latter to win the former. Fair enough, but these feints in the light of day certainly give credence to what CC was saying above. No matter how much he may want it to be true, Calipari’s success at UK will ultimately not be measured by the number of draft picks he puts into the first round — it’ll be measured by the number of banners he puts in the rafters. Surely he knows this. Right?
Just to put your mind at ease, guys, the answer is, "Yes."

Macon County Times - SEC s losses are NBA s first round gains
But when it comes to the draft, next year's could still have an SEC feel, just not as much a Kentucky flavor: The website Draftexpress.com is projecting five SEC players to go in next year's first round: Kanter, Vanderbilt junior Jeffery Taylor, Georgia sophomores Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie, and Alabama sophomore JaMychal Green.
The SEC is finally starting to turn around from two years ago when a dearth of talent put them at the bottom of the Big Six conferences.

I wish Patick nothing but the best.
Didn’t I read somewhere that Hayes may move this year? Maybe the Patrick pick would make this a fait acompli and give him a better chance for playing time.
'..when they bring a knife, you bring a gun...that's the Chicago way..'
Patrick certainly seems like a bigger and more athletic version of Chuck Hayes
I think Houston’s decision to keep Chuck or not will have to hinge around how they feel he is in the locker room. If the Celtics have room for Brian Scalabrine… surely the Rockets can find a place for Chuck.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
The Rockets just extended Hayes contract another year.

Woo Hoo!
Hayes and Patterson! Hayes and Patterson! Hayes and Patterson!
It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

WR Requires QB
Randall Cobb can’t be a game changer without monumental improvement by UK’s QB corps and game plan.

Lex18 calls it an apology of sorts, via twitter. It seems like a lot of words for a tweet (it is several I guess). He is commenting about his leaving school early and the Kansas thing.

On Miller and Liggins
I for sure see Miller but the jury is still out on Liggins. He has the potential but lets see how much he can step it up this year.
One point I would like to add on all this compliance stuff. I think that NFL, NBA, and MLB even should help with this compliance stuff. I think that they should ban any agents that do improper things with recruits. I also think that any athlete will be inelible or suspended if they are found to be involved in improper actions with agents. That right there will cut down on 99 percent of all NCAA issues. I know its a pipedream but hey maybe one day!
tenken
Hallelujah! I think that is a wonderful idea and a logical one too.

Regarding compliance staffing levels, you used the wrong quote
and it will make UK fans feel better than we should.
You quoted:
The absolute minimum number of full-time compliance officers a Division I athletic department should have is two. That probably doesn’t sit well with many smaller athletic departments, considering having one full-time compliance officer at all Division I athletic departments is a relatively recent development.
But the article goes on to say:
At the BCS level, five is the bare minimum…Some programs need more…The biggest football and basketball programs also have a booster culture surrounding them, people who want access to players and coaches, demand extraordinary levels of success, and will do anything to help their schools get it. And larger BCS schools manage more student-athletes, larger amounts of money, and deal with increased regulation through their conferences.
So in some cases, five people isn’t enough. Perhaps to ensure eligibility is taken care of, you need someone doing initial eligibility only and someone doing continuing eligibility. Perhaps another director of compliance is needed, either to take a load of programs off the other two or to become a subject matter expert in certain areas.
That last group almost reads like a description of UK. Based on the suggestions in this article, UK’s compliance office is understaffed.
So, we are one school and we have 4 full time people.....
Didnt I read that the NCAA has 90 some odd personnel??…..seems to me they are short a few they need if they are going to do the job right? I mean if there are an average of 2 at all 300+ NCAA schools that makes 600+. Should the NCAA not have as many as the schools have?
I AM THE CAT......The Cat In The Hat!!!
He may be obvious but Cal is smart....
I love his comment about Miller/Liggins. He knows that if those two step up their games, UK will have a big year. I f they don’t we will have to rely too much on the Freshman and newcomer Vargas. If both thase guys elevate their play and point to leaving early, which I believe they both have the talent to do, Kentucky will again be in the NC mix. Smart motivator!
Hayes & Patterson
They are great guys. Go Rockets!
