Well folks, it appears that there are some "experts" out there in the world of sport (and quite a few bloggers) who have some heavy duty back-stepping to do. You see there have been a few revelations in the sports-world in the last 24 hours, and guess what? John Calipari is not Satan, he is not going to the NBA, World Wide Wes is not as influential as you were led to believe, LeBron James is not God, the Bulls and the Cavaliers were talking to another college coach, and it was Darnell Dodson's grades that had him in the doghouse with Coach Cal, so it appears that Cal really does care about these kids getting an education.
I don't know about any of you but I would like to take this opportunity to point out, in a friendly sort of way, that in the last few months it has been reported that John Calipari would sell his dear sainted mother to climb over the next guy in the room to get back to the NBA, OOPS!, no, it turns out that Cal really does want to be here at Kentucky, JUST LIKE HE SAID ALL ALONG. Seems also that 'ol WWW did not have Cal, John Wall, and the rest of the entire UK group wrapped around his little finger, because John Wall has gone with a different agent, signed a shoe contract with Reebok, not Nike, and as it also turned out really was attending classes and getting good grades.
Now, without throwing our brethren up in East Lansing under the bus, it also seems that the Bulls and the Cavaliers were talking to Tom Izzo, not John Calipari about their coaching vacancies. I understand, it is easy to get the two mixed up, I mean they are both Italian, right?
And going way back into the season, we all were wondering why Darnell Dodson was not playing a lot, and furthermore wasn't playing all that well when he was in a lot of games. Coach Cal would not put anything bad out there about Darnell, rightfully so, but it seems that Darnell wasn't getting it done in the classroom, which probably contributed to that low GPA we had to hear so much moaning about all of our one-and-dones causing, and that was the reason he was in Cal's doghouse. Gee, I guess Coach really does care about grades after all. And one-and-dones DO attend classes. Well, most of them anyway.
If you are guessing that I am feeling a little self-righteous this morning, you would be correct in that assumption. I think we should start out with ESPN, work our way over to CBS, then through every 2-bit blog which ran their mouths about all of this nonsense over the past two months demanding retractions and apologies. Schadenfreude, as Tru puts it, is indeed a wonderful thing. And when we dispel the badmouthing about not being able to win with all of these freshmen this fall and next spring, I expect to come back here and go after those people as well.
