Print(Bonus points for the movie the title draws from......)Well, we certainly have managed to get ourselves into the limelight this time. We have the scholarly fanatics (of which I partly fall into) who say that we need to be fixing the grade problem, we have the money fanatics who say we are spending too much already, why are we negotiating to give Cal a raise?(thank you Paris) We have the basketball gurus who are offended at the very idea we are messing with recruits after they commit, and we have the NCAA President, the Secretary of Education, and a host of massively intelligent sports media personalities who are ready to have us beheaded to stop the "one and done" phenomena from becoming the next I-Phone.
So I figured let's just open up the phone lines and see where all of this is headed. So here is everyone's engraved invitation to tell us how the University of Kentucky and John Calipari are ruining the world of college basketball. Come one, come all Trolls of the world, give us your tired, sad, downhearted, and broken tales of woe. Make us believe you have discovered the mark of the beast on John Calipari's scalp (more movie reference). Make your case, and prove to us once and for all that there is evidence to support all of these charges of crimes against college basketball and human decency in general.
I dont just want to see snide quips, blurbs, or rhetoric, bring us the evidence, show us the web sites where the smoking guns are hidden. Make us believe that you are more than a group of whining, narcissistic, drones who are on autopilot with your "bring us his head!" speeches, and Hamlet infused monologues. Here is your chance to prove once and for all that we are the evil empire, here to set fire to your monuments of history, to make your idols cringe before our might, and to destroy the world as we now know it.
Come Duke, come Tennessee, come Louisville, North Carolina too. Come Washington, come ESPN, come all before we are through. We open our hearts and minds to your messages of concern. Now I have a question or two for you, please.
With all this ‘Embrace the Hate’ sentiments and to your point, welcoming the criticism…..why are UK folks so defensive and upset when other fans deliver? Isn’t that exactly what you want?
Maybe ‘Hate the Hate’ or ‘Argue the Hate’, or ‘Whine about the Hate’, would be more appropriate.

actually this is your chance to make your case....no whining.....just make a real case.....show some facts....
if the criticism is factually based then there is no room for complaint…..but so far there are no facts about any of these things except that “something” happened which the Trolls dont agree with…..does that mean they are wrong?……we dont know, because they have never presented one shred of proof that there has been any wrongdoing on Cal’s part. That is why this post is here….show us the proof…..please….I for one would love to see something concrete

rumors and posturing dont make for good debates or discussions……just stick to the facts, and we can debate those all day long…..
point being, UK had a lousy GPA……that is a fact, there is no disputing it……I believe they will improve, some others dont…..that is open for discussion…..what is NOT a proven fact is that the low GPA is a direct result of the kind of athletes Cal is recruiting, or that the “one and done” players are at fault for the GPA being low…..THAT is speculation…..

Just curious….what do you conclude is the reason(s) for the factual low grade point average? Tough classes? Too many hours? Unfair professors? Mistakes on grading?

I honestly have no idea......although I would find it hard to make
a case for the unfair prefessors and mistakes on grading……I would think those things are watched too closely

I thing we ARE "embracing the hate," so to speak,
by dissecting and bemoaning and arguing with and making fun of critics. I don’t think our favorite slogan means we’re aiming for this zen, Gandhi-like, turn-the-other-cheek attitude, you know? I take it as an exhortation to ourselves to remember that, while it is difficult to hear harsh or unkind or what we perceive as unfair criticism of our beloved team, it’s not the end of the world, and is actually a pretty good sign that things are as they should be. God’s in his heaven, all’s right with the world, and Kentucky is one of the most discussed, highest profile teams in college basketball again—and with the love comes the hate. Except for perhaps the Cubs, the most successful teams are almost always the most disliked—hence my own antipathy for Duke, UNC, Louisville, etc. We should try to take it as a compliment, at the same time as it totally pisses us off ; ) That’s my take on embrace the hate, anyway.
For me, it’s a matter of setting. A rude comment aimed at Calipari or UK or Kentuckians in a rival fan blog? Bring it—that’s what fan blogs are for. Coming here to OUR home and doing the same? Not cool. But either way, I’ll try to embrace it.

Off topic maybe,but....
just wondering about this Coach Cal/Chicago Bulls thing. It’s been all over ESPN this morning,including “Mike and Mike in the Morning”. I think this GPA thing could be a factor in him going. Why not go to a job and a league where a coach never has to worry about such things. And I don’t buy the whole “he done the NBA thing and failed so he will never go back.” He,like most coaches,has a lot of pride and I think a part of him wants to go back to the NBA to prove he can coach at that level. He also has an offense in the dribble drive that suits the NBA. He didn’t have that in New Jersey. He has had good luck with future NBA players including Derrick Rose who just happens to be in Chicago. Sorry about going off topic,but just wondering……
his way of doing things does not work in the NBA.....much the same as Pitino's did not.....
they have a college basketball mentality and they know where they belong

ABC……unless someone has blue koolaid being pumped directly into their veins……this hasn’t been a great week from a PR standpoint for a UK fan.
I won’t go through the list because you hit every bullitt point very well. I will say that I REALLY question the grade issue and the UK adminstration’s response to it and then just a day or say later the response to rumors he might leave.
To me looking through my 53 yr old VERY cynical eyes…..this is sending the wrong message to the world. Yeah……grades?? Well let’s list all the reasons this isn’t what it seems to be. OMG Cal might leave!!!!!……we HAVE to throw more money at the coach already making the most in college basketball.
I love UK just like I love all my kids…..unconditionally!!! Because I love them that doesn’t mean I always think they’re perfect or making the right decision each time.
If paying Cal even more money is the only way to keep him from going to the Pro’s……well in this cynical UK fans eyes that just doesn’t seem to be a good decision right now.
Just one opinion and I’m sure there are many who will disagree!:-)

nah, youre not a troll JM.....I am not concerned about his leaving for one thing.......
but simply because he has already made everyone well aware that this is where he wants to be, so just work to make the deal long term…..also no one has said that he would be getting more money anyway. PR is just exactly what you make of it. Cal is a genius in turning this kind of thing to his favor, so I figure we have some good press coming…..but honestly, we are not hurt by this grade situation…..it happened and we move on…..nothing of any consequence really.

Having graduated from UofL
in 1980 with a 2.00000000000000001 gpa (before they raised the minimum to 2.5)……I agree the grades aren’t a HUGE issue. BUT…….seems like just another bit of info that I think every UK fan would honestly rather hear about Kansas or UofL than us.

The satisfaction of a job well-done is all the reward I need (but midcourt at the UofL game would have been nice.) Perhaps I’ll continue to be a poster and not just a reader here from now on, especially if the movie references continue. I’m a HUGE movie watcher/fan as well as Wildcat fan from waaayy back.

Kentucky is all conference when it comes to their fans hating other schools, coaches, and the like.
Of course we have to ‘hate’ anyone who posts a view contrary to the actions of our coaches, etc.
Every notice the ones we ‘hate’ the most are the more successful programs? And Bobby Knight? One of the winningest coaches of all times, we ‘hate’ him the most. The ‘hate’ for Coach K is closely behind. Steve Spurrier, in the minor sport program of football. Fulmer? Yep.
Still got some Tubby ‘hate’ floating around if the topic is right.
Gillispie? Big time.
The guy who brought us Gillispie? Not as much. Just a little ‘hate’. (count me as the leader of that ‘hate’ club)
So lets all get the ‘hates’ out in the open and maybe we can get on with actually trying to built a better athletic program and quit worrying or fretting about what others think, say, and those who have beat our ass constantly, (I know we have a better win, loss record against Knight but it sticks in our crawl that he won those championships with out a hint of NCAA investigation in all those years. Throw a chair here, slap a player, etc. sounds like a person we should ‘hate’ but I don’t. Sorry.

Not actual, real-life Hilter-and-Al-Qaeda hate. There’s no harm in it., I promise. It’s not personal, it’s not based on anything logical, and it’s not a big deal in any way, shape or fashion. I personally find it a fun aspect of being a fan. Your mileage may vary, but please, I’m begging you, stop acting like the rest of us are small-minded or ridiculous or seething with jealously because we like to have fun at our rivals’ expense.

I was simply trying to debate what seemed to me to be your opinion that when we fans say we “hate” some team or player or coach, we actually mean we legitimately HATE them. Certainly not mine…..I just think the guy is a jerk……a very knowledgeable jerk when it comes to the game of basketball, but about nothing else does he even show a hint of knowledge….
Dont “hate” Coach K…..the Cameron crazies are what they are…..dont ever ask me to say anything nice about Christian Laettner though……
I always have and always will love Tubby…..anyone who coaches that intensely and has the fire that Tubby had while he was here gets my vote…..dont ask me to say anything complimentary about Eddie Sutton though….and not for the reasons you might think…..

but if so, how is that satire, is what I’m wondering. Like,by calling it satire, is he being sarcastic—holding what he appears to be saying up to ridicule, and actually espousing the opposite (that one and done players love UK, take school seriously, etc). We just didn’t get this one, and that probably has just as much to do with us as it does you, so it’s not exactly your fault. No biggie, and keep ‘em comin’, I say.
I personally have no idea about Terrance Jones. Keeping track of the decisions of 17-18 year old boys seems like an effort in futility to me, so I’ll leave that to others.
