So the mini nerd fight about rain got me thinking. Why not line up these two fine states, look at the tale of the tape, and see who wins:

Scenery would have to be a push

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I hadn’t made the blue and white connection, but I like it. “What’s your favorite colors baby? Blue and White.”

Montgomery Gentry?

Johnny Cash beats Alice in Chains hands down!

Johnny Cash wasn't from Kentucky

Madisonville claims him

Although CMT’s biography says otherwise. Most Kentuckians would adopt him. When he married into the Carter Family, he became part of the Appalachian Family and Heritage.

She has Actually lived in Ky at some point.

well, so has Ashley

Though she was born in California and moved around a lot as a child, she spent much of her childhood in KY—in addition to attending college at UK of course.

I realize this is a joke and I’m reading too much into it ;) but you could have also used My Morning Jacket as KY music, coop—not being much of a country music fan, I do not feel KY was represented best by Montgomery Gentry!

by blue kentucky girl on May 21, 2010 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not much of a country fan either

But I’ve never heard of My Morning Jacket…..

true

though Washington does have a fine musical history—I came of age in the 90s so have deep affection for the whole grunge thing : )

But Washington:

Alice in Chains
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Foo Fighters
Soundgarden

They’ve got us covered….and it isn’t close….

How about Queensryche?

Weren’t they the first successful band out of Seattle? That only leaves those grundge guys about 75 years to catch up with Ralph Stanley, Tom T. Hall, et all…

"all the way"

by ro307805 on May 21, 2010 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

And Queensryche is terrible...

plus lately we’ve had (although I’m not particularly a fan of any of these artists) Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. Also, Foo Fighters aren’t from Washington…Dave Grohel was actually the only non-WA guy in Nirvana.

If you like to get specific Duff McKegan is from Seattle as well, so we can claim 1/4 of GnR. The Wilson sisters from Heart were also from Seattle. We win music, hands down.

I also have a bone to pick with the sports tradition category, but I’ll keep that to myself.

It's hard to believe

that any list would leave out “the Coal Miner’s daughter” Loretta Lynn,The Everly Brothers, Billy Ray Cyrus and his lovely daughter Miley. I could go on!
