NBADraft.net Latest Mock Draft
This is just one of the many mock drafts out there, of course, but this mock currently lists Wall, Cousins, Patterson, Orton and Bledsoe all going in the first round.
There is no way to know for sure about draft order and lottery teams this early, but it's still fun to look at mock drafts and to speculate on where our boys might end up if they all stay in the draft, and which NBA teams we might be watching with newfound interest next season.

This is my favorite mock site.
Concerning the upcoming Draft, I was talking to a friend (from Cleveland, so more of an NBA fan) who asked me what the chances were of Orton and Bledsoe allowing the sudden praise and projections (which change constantly) go to their heads without really thinking. I said I couldn’t speculate, because I don’t even know what they’re hearing. However, we all know how the media hype can “overblow” things, and it seems like Bledsoe and Orton weren’t draft prospects for this season until Chad Ford’s lottery mock.
What I’m trying to get at is…what if Orton or Bledsoe end up falling out of the first round? Obviously not likely, but look at DeJuan Blair last year. Sophomore big man with knee problems. Projected for the lottery. Ends up declaring early and then….gets drafted midway through the 2nd round at 37. I’m not suggesting Orton is a Blair clone (not by any means), but guys like Orton (or Bledsoe) falling out of the first would not be unprecedented.
Orton
Won’t fall past Oklahoma City’s pick in early 20’s of 1st round.

But people were smitten w/ Blair, and sure he would be a Top 25.
I agree with you…just saying that surefire first-rounders have fallen into the second.

If Pittsburgh Had NBA Team
Blair wouldn’t have fallen, either.

mrmondaynite,
about Blair, though, isn’t he with the Spurs now? And, I think he’s actually playing some serious minutes, too. I’m sure that’s because he’s like one of the only youngish people on that team, my goodness, I think the Spurs’ average age is like 35, and that’s with Blair (how was that for rambling?? : )), but, my main point, I guess, is that if Orton (or even Bledsoe) does fall out of the first round and gets picked up by someone in the second round they could still get lucky and end up on a team where they will be needed and could play some good minutes.
Since money seems to be a major factor in the decisions of Orton and Bledsoe entering the draft this year, playing on an NBA team and working for a small salary is probably seen by them as better than being in college working for no salary at this point, and by playing and actually seeing floor time, they would be able to prove themselves and their skills, thus working toward that coveted big $$ contract, maybe?
I think my ramble tops yours, no question. : )
Just noticed this, BSC.
Everything you said is accurate. Additionally, for most of the season, Blair was tops in the “rebounds per minute” statistic.
No matter where Orton goes, he will play and get good minutes, eventually.
It just seems, to me, that there was no chance of Orton or Bledsoe going until that Chad Ford mock draft on ESPN, and that maybe they were hedging their bets too much on what one “expert” says. That said, I don’t know what else they’re hearing.
When you enter the Draft, I think you’re looking for the guaranteed money. My (pointless) post was posing the hypothetical situation that 1 of the 2 falls into the second. I pointed out Orton & Blair because of the similar histories between the two.

Excellent point, especially the “working for a little, as opposed to working for nothing.” The problem with getting drafted in the second round is (as you know), no guaranteed money, and a statistical probability that you probably won’t start the following season on your team’s roster. How much does the D League pay? Haha….but Orton and Bledsoe won’t see the D League, no matter when/where they get drafted.
Good rant exchange, as always.

i could see a team taking orton over aldrich...
memphis will not use all 3 1st round picks.
orton and bledsoe are awful close to falling out of the 1st round on that draft board. although i can make a case for both going 1st round, i am thinking once the emotion of the ncaa wears off, they are dangerously close to falling out of the 1st round
after the 1st round games, i was a proponent of them going but felt UK had to go to the national title game for all 5 to go.
only one rule in my house - uk has to be your favorite college bball team
Wait this can't be right.
I don’t see Edgar Sosa’s name.
'..when they bring a knife, you bring a gun...that's the Chicago way..'
Heh.
Sosa’s probably a second-rounder, but he will make it in the league, I believe. He has a lot of talent, he just needs to mature.
I though he would be dynamite by now, but he just never got his head quite right. There is no questioning his raw ability.

Eh... there's a lot of assumptions on that draft
It lists Singler and Hayward as early entrants and I’m pretty sure they’ll both be back in school next year.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
yeah,
that’s why they call it a “mock” draft there, chirop. : ) The purpose of these mock drafts is simply to compile a list of all the college and international talent out there and then they make guesses on where they might go if they were to enter the draft. It’s all just guessing.
I suppose that after May 8th (as I believe that’s the deadline for underclassmen to either withdraw or stay in the draft?) things will look a lot different and perhaps could be seen as more accurate, but even then, like I said above, all mocks are just guesses. But, I still find them fun to peruse once in a while. : )
"Once in a while" ?!?!
Sadly, I look at them daily, especially now that we have 5 guys going.

well,
daily might be overkill as I think they only update these things like every week or two, don’t they? Probably more so now that the draft is approaching, but in any event, I totally understand, mock drafts are fun to look, especially when you have FIVE reasons to do so. ; )
And yes, NBADraft.net is one of my favorites, too. I’m not entirely sure why as I’m sure it’s no more accurate than any of the others and it probably doesn’t contain any more insider info than any of the others, but I do like it the best. Maybe because I find it pretty easy to move around in and find things? Its user friendly for me, I guess. : )
This one and draftexpress.com
seem to update everyday now as early entrants throw their names in.
I think I like it because it’s quick info that doesn’t take much thought to disseminate.
Finally, between NFL and NBA mock drafts, NBA mocks are much less accurate. But that obviously won’t stop us from reading.
An activity like sitting through awfully boring classes such Payment Systems and Decedents’ Estates is also conducive to mining my brain for any site I can in order to distract me. NBAdraft.net always comes to mind.
