"The Only Thing to FEAR is Fear itself"
Since most of us have a good grip on reality and the things that matter most when it comes to UK winning, what are the things that we allow ourselves to FEAR too much? 3s (I'm sick of this debate)? Poor perimeter defense? Too many unforced turnovers? etc.
The answers to most of these questions and questions like these revert back to the past few years where being stagnant and mediocre was more of a state of being for the BIG BLUE Nation. To make matters worse, rather than a notable confidence in a historic program that makes our opponents fear us, instead, we have feared our opponents.
"What's the point?", you might be asking...
Well, I'm not saying that we fear our opponents anymore (especially given our talent, coach, and record), but I find myself wanting to challenge this mindset of fear that plagues us as spectators and doesn't allow us to have a confidence knowing that a championship is coming. Maybe not this year (which would suck), maybe not next year, but believe me, it will happen.
Basketball is beautiful because it challenges our inherent tendencies for order, comfort, and control. We as fans cannot control what a player does or how the coach coaches or the outcome of any given game. We are simply left with this feeling of exuberance if our team wins because behind that win came a requirement to lose order, comfort, and control so that we might enter the gates of celestial celebration. If we as fans begin to let our fear of not winning another championship rise within us, we have succumb to our tendencies of control which makes us lose the very thing that makes a good story...overcoming conflict to get the prize.
Going into March, let us go in confidently, courageously, and knowing that whatever happens, "The only thing to FEAR is FEAR itself!" GO CATS!

I think the thing you are calling fear is just fans sitting around talking to each other about a subject they all love. Here in Kentucky and all over this land are people who love our Cats. We talk about them ALL year long. Unlike most schools there is No off season. Even during football season you will find many posts and a lot of talk about our beloved Cats.:-)
Happy Days are here again The sky is all ways BLUE again Happy days are here again !
Agreed Oldcat...
I myself know the Cat culture as I am still a Kentuckian at heart (even though I live in Kansas) and will always be a UK fan. I was mainly addressing the souls who lose heart too easily and fear that if we don’t win it this season, we won’t win it for a long time. =)
I use to love Happy Meals, now I love sushi, but I will always love Kentucky!
In most cases
I agree that it is just fans being fans. There are those who become obsessive about it and losing causes real anger and depression.
Well, I have found
Fear and worry can ruin life and yes in KY, that includes basketball games. I try to just enjoy all things. :-)
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Amen to that...
I gave up being afraid and worried about 10 years ago, and I can’t tell you how much it changed my life. Life is too short to worry and fret it away. “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof”!
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." A. Bartlett Giamatti
Just enjoy the ride...
This team, and this program, have come further faster than anyone could have predicted (especially after a few years of disappointing mediocrity).
Do I fear the Cats will lose in March (or April)? Yes. But only because I know they have enough talent where they shouldn’t lose.
But is it up to me? No. So I’ll just happily cheer them on, toast to their victories, and enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.
I Hear You
I have been enjoying this season though….Man, how much fun! Great distraction from real worries.
"fear leads to hate, which leads to suffering, and the Dark Side"
Is Yoda talking about Louisville?
"all the way"
Kentucky versus Georgia
Hey that was FUN to watch.
The CATs really gathered themselves after the half and came out smokin’ on offense and defense …. then you had Cuz running the floor – feeding a Patterson JAM! The blocked shots – the made threes … really cool.
The only thing that would have been better would be if Florida was sitting in the stands saying “my game” … we could have beat them right there too.
