Talked to my kin folk back in KY this morning....word is that .....
The WildCat train as left the station full steam ahead… look out remaining NCAA opponents. WOW Exciting times!!!! 34-2!!! What a difference a year can make.
I had a wonderful time in Portland back in '96.
One of my best friends at work was a UMass graduate. We had the Final Four party at his house. My brother and I manned the grill while the Unforgetables manned the Minutemen. Wonderful time. Great friends and great basketball.
Speaking of “The Unforgetables”, I’ve posited a name for the current bumper crop. Can y’all let me know what you think?

Like I said ...
UK killed Wake, and I really don’t mind too much. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cornell run Wisconsin out of the building, to be honest — the Big tenleven doesn’t have a shooting team like Cornell — and the Big Red would give Kentucky more fits (though they lack the perimeter size to stop Kentucky, they have a very, very good offense). Beyond that … I really doubt WVU could take Kentucky, ever.

true,
but, we had two losses to teams that didn’t even make the NCAA tourney and we are by all accounts playing, well, I can’t even begin to describe how awesome we are playing right now. : )
I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on ’Cuses two losses.
And to SoCar, though.
Yeah, it’s all about how well you play right now. Tennessee’s last two games have been very good — hardly reminiscent of the USoCal or Georgia losses; obviously any team can get beat if they don’t bring it every game.

bingo, bobo.
It’s all about RIGHT NOW. It’s the teams that click on all cylinders precisely when they should that win games in March.
Btw, seeing as how Kansas was not clicking on all cylinders yesterday, I would say that Tennesse’s road just got a bit easier, provided you can get around Ohio State. Gotta say, I like your chances. : )
Definately.
When Tennessee plays as well as it can it can take anybody, as both Kansas and ya’ll well know. But we’ve not been to the Elite Eight in 17 tries, I think I read, and Pearl is 0-2 in the Sweet Sixteen to date. Both Ohio State and Georgia Tech will be tall orders for us; against OSU I kinda like our chances a bit more because of Pearl’s excellent gameplanning against star guards.

I think Ohio State is hot and likely to win without KU.
But Ga Tech playing them tight. Tenn defintely has a better than fair chance.
Yes they are playing without ... Okwakanu(?) and up 30
Other than us … who else really playing well in the tournament? (Please don’t say Duke)

yeah,
especially if they were to go up against a team that wants to run them to death. : )
But, on the defensive end, I think the fact that Syracuse plays zone helps them out a bit. I mean, it would seem to me that playing zone is a lot easier and less taxing on a person than man-to-man where you are running yourself ragged trying to keep up.

Anyone who DID pick UNI is a complete moron; Kansas didn’t play with hunger in a way they hadn’t played all year. There was no rational reason to believe that UNI wins that game.

Well, I think that UNI was an unknown until yesterday.
So I’m not sure I agree with the “moron” part of the assessment. UNI, from what I saw, simply has a better defense than KU normally faces, and their big men bent the Jayhawks over, put a skirt on them, and made them sell cigarettes on cell block C.
Of course, I’ve been suspect of KU’s inside game all year when it comes to comparing them to a team with a rough bunch of boys inside (like, for instance, UK), so maybe I was only seeing what I expected to see.
An Irish gang invaded KU’s delusional dominance in the paint. I’m not saying I would have picked UNI, but I would have thought that UNI would rough them up and give them something to think about, had I known anything about them.

I don't think so..
For all of Duke’s faults, this is a team that, when they play as good as they are capable, are very deserving of a #1 seed. We know Coach K will have them ready and that the Seniors want it. I don’t think they are as talented or as good as teams like UK or Syracuse, but I don’t think they’ll lose against a far lesser opponent.

"far lesser opponent..."
Well see, that’s the dang thing of it as far as I can tell. Let me go on record here as saying that I HATE the Pac 10. But as so often happens with the Pac 10, their few good teams are underrated in March. Washington sure looks good, and Cal sure looks a hell of a lot better than I ever gave them credit for.
I’m not so sure I would, if I were you, characterize Cal’s team as a far lesser opponent quite so blithely. I’m just saying…

I’m very serious…w/ the way UK has been playing, cornell can shoot all the 3’s they want, they can’t stop UK players…so, tit-for-tat, but UK will challenge more shots…so Cornell will not shoot as well as they have the first 2 games….its WV we should truly be worried about

UW was 4.5 over Cornell (I think)....
But I don’t really think the Big 10 teams are that good this year…so…Cornell should get smashed if the same UK team comes to play that has been here the first two :) …lets not forget, Cornell has to come to play too…their 4 losses on the regular season include: Seton Hall, Penn, KU and Syracuse. 2 of the 4 is expected, but the first two?? IMO Jordan is more athletic than Joe, your opinion? Xavier is dominating, great defense.

Correct, But
I was hoping for something with less a tint of Blue.

WVU
Isn’t that worrisome for me. Think about the match ups, aside from Butler there is no one that matches up well with Kentucky. What size WVU does has Kentucky has more, and more bulk to go with it. Mazzula(sp?) can’t shoot so thats not someone we need to worry about..
Should Kentucky continue to play they way they have, with a guard dropping 20, a big man dropping 20, and the hot stroke from deep, there is no way the Mountaineers will have a chance. Even if Butler has 30.
I’m big on match-ups, and this WVU team just loses in nearly every positional match=up.
"I'm gonna go home, drink a Coors Light. Because Bud Light ain't payin' me nothin'." - The Brock. Quote of the Year
I respectfully disagree.
If UK and WVU meet in the E8, I think Huggins makes his kids watch the UT loss over and over. They crowded the paint and UK had to shoot well from long range, which – as we all know – they did not do.
UK seems to hits 3s when there’s no pressure to hit them. However, when there’s pressure, they struggle. When a team is defending in the paint well (which WVU absolutely does), it pressures a team to shoot effectively from the perimeter.
I think WVU will crowd the paint, frustrate Cousins and Orton (and Patterson) under the basket), which will force UK to hit from the perimeter.
by mrmondaynite on Mar 21, 2010 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I think I'm looking at the "overall" matchup between the teams
as opposed to your look at individual matchups.
by mrmondaynite on Mar 21, 2010 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions
The Big East
Lacks extremely talented big men. It just so happens we have 3 of them. Yes, Orton is extremely talented and would start on most big east teams. With that being said, I’m sure that they will be doubling the big men every time they touch it. When that double comes, if the Wildcats are awake, they are some of the best interior passers in the nation. Cousins and Patterson especially, they throw darts to one another every game. And I have a strong feeling that since Bledsoe and Miller have had huge games recently, Wall is very due for one. He had 17 and 11 in the first game but I’m thinking he’s gonna go for 25+ really soon, and against WVU would be a perfect time to do that.

i only watched a few minutes of the mizzou/wva game...
but i was amazed at how many transition opportunities mizzou missed. they missed on several 2 on 1, 3 on 1 fast breaks – and missed them for the most basic reasons.
mizzou did not get the opportunities from their press but from their normal defense.
my point is that i too am worried somewhat about wva, but i figure if mizzou can get fastbreaks so can uk – the difference is we will finish.

Missouri also was abismal from the free throw line, if I’m not mistaken. Especially within the last 5 minutes they were not good from the line.
I know Kentucky is not perfect from the line.. but it seems like at the end of the games our guys know when its necessary to knock it down

Cornell
Hm, I think the best way to beat a tem like Cornell would be pressing them, which should take them out of their offense.
Throw some
tall guards at them, challenge the three. Don’t know if they’ve faced a team with our height. Wall and then Liggins is a possible if they start shooting over Bledsoe.
Its impossible for them to have faced a team with our height! We’re the biggest in the country!!

Cornell ... I know they played Kansas and Syracuse this season ...
And played both close ….. Looking at todays box score – the five starters scored all of their points … they got 4 points from the bench (all 4 by Mark Coury) …. is that the usual game for them??

Need to have some bench production against these Wildcats, their defense is absolutely outstanding right now. When watching the interviews after the Wake game, nearly every player accredited the big game to the defense. A scrappy hard-nosed Bledsoe and Deandre Liggins will be nothing like the defenses Cornell has played yet.

Just peeked in
on the Kansas board. They are praying that Henry declares for the draft. They are blaming him for problems with the team chemistry and and begrudgingly admitting that Wall is a superior player. I for one am glad he went to KU.
Coach Cal
Is a better motivater and better at changing a person for the better.. Under any other Coach I don’t know if Cousins would be as well “tamed” as he is under Cal.
I think Henry would have been tamed in this manner just like Cousins was.
