The Big Blue Daily Mail -- Round 2 Edition
The 'Cats will be facing the Demon Deacons tomorrow. Sounds like fun. Now, the news:
-
Calipari just wants Cats to 'land the plane' - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN
"Land the plane. Survive and advance," Calipari said. "That’s all we’re thinking about. We’re not worried about the score and who scores and what. Just land the plane and move on."
That's what it's all about.

Scarbo's picking Calipari again? That's madness | al.com
Calipari’s done the best coaching job of his career this year, blending all that talent and channeling all that immaturity, and now he has to finish the job by taking a bunch of NCAA Tournament rookies and leading them to six straight wins.
I think Calipari's coaching job this year has been underappreciated. Maybe he doesn't deserve COY honors, but he surely deserves more credit than he has gotten.

"I’m moving a little slow, but I think I’ll be better by tomorrow," Orton said Friday. "Most people think I landed on my hip, but I actually landed right on my lower back. I think that’s what (hurt) me so much."
So now we know. He is sore (I'm sure his back near the tailbone is bruised) but he should be okay. Great news.

courier-journal.com | Rick Bozich blog | The Courier-Journal
Cornell is obviously a very nice team, a group that handled Temple easily. But no way does Cornell have the personnel to withstand the heat that Kentucky would bring in the Sweet Sixteen next Thursday in Syracuse. An Ivy League team had not won an NCAA Tournament game since 1998. Now the Ivies are going to win one, two, three? Don't see it.
Assuming we get to the Sweet Sixteen, I would worry very much about facing Cornell. They are the best 3-point shooting team in college basketball and have had some very efficient offensive games. But I must confess, I have no idea how they propose to stop John Wall or DeMarcus Cousins, let alone Patrick Patterson.
That's a problem I would love to have the opportunity to solve, but we have to get there first.

March Madness: A Hit Everywhere Except the Stands --FanHouse
"Every game we've played on the road has been a sellout," said Kentucky coach John Calipari. "We've had no empty seats until today."
I admit, I feel bad about this. We should travel better. Usually, we do. Maybe my priorities are misplaced. I could have gone to Nawlins. Kind of wish I did, now. :-(

Heh. Well. You can't compete with that.

Scarbinsky: Not everyone in Memphis hates Calipari | al.com
I found him. He’s as rare as Bigfoot, and some people think he’s a myth, but I actually found him.

Purdue to nation: Shove it - Beyond the Arc - msnbc.com
Purdue doesn’t need your sympathy. Not with that defense.
Heh. I resemble that remark.
-
Pitino: Knows he’s fighting a losing battle in Kentucky. He’s now second fiddle to Calipari. Had a great run with the Cards – Final Four and an Elite 8 – and the guess here is that he explores all options – NBA or college – this offseason. Is he damaged goods, though? Still too toxic post-Sypher?
Is this guy serious? He actually thinks that maybe Donovan or Pitino will run off to the Great Northwest to coach the Ducks?
Bwahahahaaaa! I'm sorry, I just can't think of anything else to say.

I want to make sure I under stand you stance on Tubby’s situation
When I go to breakfast tomorrow and some one asks me about the possibility of Tubby going to Auburn that is someone exactly between
1. The plane with Tubby just landed in Auburn
2.
3.
4.
5. Auburn signs some one other than Tubby to coach the basketball team.
Were do the phrases "ludicious’ and “skeptical” fit?
Just picking oh ya.
I haven’t seen yet what he is going to do. A lot of side stepping at this time.
Like, ‘we haven’t talked’ etc.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
Tubby Not Going To Auburn
Per (e-mail) conversations with 2 people THISCLOSE to him today.

I would be drop-dead shocked ...
… if he even seriously considered it.

Tubby Smith is more likely to flap his arms and fly to Mars ...
… than he is to coach in Auburn.
Is that clear enough four you?

yep
That makes it clear. So I feel much better getting it voiced that way.
Arm flapping would be in position four. .
Lucilous would be three and skeptical would be in two.
That’s pretty much got it covered.
Where would you have put the chances of him going to Minnesota a few years ago?

Much Higher Than Him Going To Auburn Now
The 2007 job switch was plausible.

Article In Milwaukee Paper Thursday
http://www.jsonline.com/sports/88507327.html This describes 2007 vis-a-vis 2010 in terms of how Tubby feels.
Time for a change (then). Just getting started (now).

I agree.
But I’ll have to say when they said he was leaving Kentucky to go to MINNESOTA was a shocker. Maybe to some other Big Ten school but not to one who hadn’t filled the Barn for a number of years.

I Have Followed Big 10 Since 1969
Minnesota has a decent basketball tradition (among Top 10 schools at putting players into NBA all-time) so I wasn’t utterly shocked in March 2007.
The state of MN produces good basketball talent. The only competition comes from Wisconsin or Iowa for much of that talent.

Pitino or Donovan in Oregon? Yea right. But its possible and Oregon needs an athletic director too. There’s a guy right there in Lexington with experience at the school who would be a perfect fit.
No, actually he wouldn’t. They take pride in their football. Sorry, had to.
You don’t think they would make it a package deal and offer say 8 million for Cal and Barnhart do you? I think Mitch could live on 750,000 don’t you?

Matt Pilgrim
My first opportunity to see Pilgrim in action ….. BEAST – this guy can play.
Sorry Travis – I’m a Tech guy …. but I do like Pilgrims game.
Yep....love Harrleson's goofy smile and he seems like a great kid but not sure Cal
made the right choice there.
You can't fix "stupid"!
Harrellson Happy With 5 Minutes Per Game
Pilgrim would not be happy.

a bruised tail bone is not good...
i know he is getting the best medical treatment he can, but orton is going to be in pain for awhile -
living in memphis, i know i should be in new orleans as it is only 6 hours away, just have too much going on…

New Mexico State had a good team
Tom Izzo’s defense was better …. Michigan State a good veteran team -
Only 1 UK Opponent (Tennessee) Remains In NCAA Field
That means the other 30 teams have not played or prepared to play UK this season.
I like UK’s chances the first time the Cats play an opponent this season.

So stats folks, here is something interesting
Can computing stats in real-time give Wake Forest the edge? It says the program provides extensive halftime reports of what is working and what is not . FWIW, UK is on the Fast Model Software client list, but I haven’t seen a laptop on the sideline.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
We don't need
Interesting but...
I think most games are played too fast. Plus, can’t you just watch the game and say hey, that number 11 is killing us. Perhaps we should play better defense on him.
The article says he is constantly
asking those next to him what play just happened. I wonder if they can keep up in a fast paced game?
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
sounds like a great idea to me. If it can tell you what’s working and what’s not.
The problem I would see would be can it tell you who its working against? I mean what works against Orton might not work against Cousins. Doesn’t it measure intimidation factors? Would you rather drink the lane on Patterson than on Harrelson?
I’d think it would take more than one tech to enter the data.

Sorry
does it measure
and
dive instead of drink
hell, who knows it might be better to be under the influence to drive against Pat

Paris, I want to share something with you
I spent a lot of time in Paris with my grandparents when I was growing up. Little Rock mostly when I was very young. In fact my brother was married at Cane Ridge Meetinghouse.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
nice to know. Bourbon County has a lot of little communities that are like Little Rock. The Cane Ridge Meetinghouse is a beautiful place. Well preserved and one we are very proud of.
