LEX18 | Lexington, KY | News, Weather, Sports, Kentucky | Cutler Comments: Cal Blows Out Pearl 74-45
It was rough and nasty. Melvin Goins was tossed from the game after he threw an elbow at Cousins. Cousins received a technical for yelling back at Goins after his cheap shot.
A shot to the boys seemed to help DeMarcus Cousins focus on his free throws -- he didn't miss one after that.
Maybe a shot to the the junk would help him tomorrow with his free throw shooting. Just don't ask me to do it -- unlike Melvin Goins, my daddy taught me not to tug on Superman's cape, let alone punch him in a delicate spot.

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins | College Hoops Journal
I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch, but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.
This is wrong if it is happening, and not only needs to stop, but needs to be rebuked with prejudice. If any coach has encouraged his players to try to get Cousins to react, he deserves to be fired for cause.
This is not only unsportsmanlike, it borders on the criminal. These are kids, not adults, and this sort of manipulation smacks of John Chaney sending "thugs" in to attack opponents physically. Unethical, unsportsmanlike, unspeakable. To any coaches who may be thinking this is a good idea, for God's sake, get a grip, or go to the NBA where nobody cares about sportsmanship.

UK notebook: Cousins' defenders shouldn't get leeway on fouls, ref says | KentuckySports.com
The refs, like the teams, seek to survive and advance. From 96 in the first round to 48 in the second, to 36 at the regionals to nine at the Final Four. Among the topics touched on by Adams were:
■ Calipari was correct that Cousins should expect referees from other parts of the country to bring pre-conceived notions of the UK big man into tournament games.
"Referees are like any fan," Adams said. "They watch games on TV."
Boy, that just gives me all kinds of confidence in the NCAA officiating. Not.

Wall: We weren't going to be punked - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN
Cousins said what really got him going was Tennessee reserve forward Steven Pearl, who went after Cousins physically early in the game and tried to get under his skin.
"I know what his job was to do, but he didn’t do a good job of it," Cousins cracked.
Asked just what that job was, Cousins said. "Foul me and try to get me out of my game."
Grrr. My dislike of Pearl grows with comments like this. But I must try to keep in mind this is only one side of the story.

EARLY EXITS TO NBA DIM MARCH MADNESS - MontereyHerald.com :
The tournament that used to be about basketball and the stars that played it is now about brackets and the millions of folks that fill them out. The vast majority of those who monitor the games are more interested in their pools than in colleges they can't locate on the map or players they can't identify
There are fair-weather fans in every sport, and college basketball is no different. I don't participate in pools anymore, and for me, it's all about the sport. But if some people enjoy it for the bracket challenges, I can't see a thing wrong with that.
-
"I've been hit before, but I don't think anything was that personal," said Cousins, who got a technical for jawing at Goins after the play. "I don't know what that was about."
Cousins didn't just jaw at Goins, he wanted to put knots on his head. He was truly angry, and I marvel that he was able to restrain himself as much as he did.

Kentucky Downs Vols in Big Blue Blowout -- NCAABB FanHouse
While the elbow may have been intentional, it was impossible to tell for sure. And it was certainly less egregious than DeMarcus Cousins' elbow against Louisville.
Y'all agree with this statement? Heh. Didn't think so.

Family affair ....
Today is also my wifes birthday, my brother-in-laws birthday and my mother-in-laws birthday … Happy Birthday to you too Patrick Patterson …..
May all of your Birthday wishes come true (I’m sure most all of them are shared by the UK fans)
I really hope
the elbow wasn’t intentional. That is very uncool. :-{
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
In my opinion ...
… it was obviously intentional. Apparently, the refs agreed.

This is sort of random,
but did ya’ll see that little 3-4 second tv clip of Wall, Patterson, Bledsoe and Cousins that they have been showing on ABC during the SEC tourney? You know, the one where the boys are in their blue uniforms and they are standing there kinda dancin’ around, snapping their fingers and Cousins is holding the guitar? I can’t remember if there is music playing in the background or not? Yeah, I just love that clip and hope we get to see it like 500 more times today. : )
Also, I just watched that clip of Goins elbowing Cousins again and it makes me SO mad I can barely type. And, I agree with whichever article it was that suggests that SEC coaches are indeed “reminding” their players that Cousins is a very spirited young man, but I don’t think it’s smart or sportsmanlike in the least. It’s pathetic. Can’t compete with the kid’s skills so you resort to cheap tactics? Oh, it just makes me so mad! And yes, Tru, I agree, the elbow by Goins was definitely intentional. I won’t go so far as to say that Pearl ordered it, but it was definitely intentional, I’m sure of it.
I don't think Pearl ordered it.
I loathe Pearl, but I refuse to believe he is John Chaney in orange. :-)

heat of the moment by Goins, you mean?
Yeah, I can get behind that, it doesn’t make it right, but I think that’s probably what happened. Pearl gets a pass from me. This time. : )
I guess I have such a hard time with this because isn’t it just like some unspoken rule with athletes or men, in general — YOU DON’T ELBOW THE GROIN. THAT AREA IS OFF LIMITS. PERIOD. I mean, I would never in a million years tell a woman her hair or her shoes looked like crap. There are just some things you do not do or say to those of your same gender. ; )
I love that dancing clip!
Cousins is a shockingly good dancer for such a big dude

There are times in every man's life when he sees what he has become, what his potential for success is and why he is on this earth
He thinks of the past, questions his mistakes, and reflects on the better moments when he has overcome the pettyness of this world and those in it who are unworthy of his attention. He smiles inwardly and contemplates what the future will hold and where his existence will intersect with the fates the Gods put before him.
We have an entire team, a fanbase, and even a world or people watching this happen with our beloved Wildcats. I have mistakenly referred to them some times in the past as “trained killers” or “assassins”, not because I felt that they were in some way unfit, rather that they were betond the parameters of the normal college basketball player. They were “too good” . I allowed their feats to blur my senses and my intellect. I thought that they were more than men.
But, they are not, they are just boys in uniforms playing this game for fun. For the thrill of standing out on that court listening to 25k people yelling and screaming for them to do more and more. They practice like maniacs, they work like dogs to perfect their craft, so they can be more and more every time out on the floor. We see the end result, and yell, and scoff at mistakes and pray for more. And we love it……we cant get enough of it……we wait anxiously with baited breath and our mouths watering for every dunk, pass, 3 pt shot, cross over dribble, fast break, defensive stand and blocked shot. We will defend our team from the depths of Hell to the highest lofts of Heaven. You attack on of us, you attack all of us, you want to try to drive us away, then we wil send more. We will not be denied, defeated, or discouraged. We study our opponents, break down their weaknesses and exploit them at will.
And we do all of this just so our young men will have the glory, the memories, and the satisfaction of knowing they were and always will be a part of something that is so big, even the people inside it do not always understand it.
This is the Big Blue Nation…..and we are coming for you……all of you….do not be afraid, and do not resist…..resistence is futile, and fear is a wasted emotion for you……We are Big Blue…..and we are ONE.
I AM THE CAT......The Cat In The Hat!!!
